1. INTRODUCTION
Ths manual contans nstallaton, operaton and mantenance nstructons for the T51P and T51XW Indcators. Please read ths
manual completely before nstallaton and operaton.
For safe and dependable operaton of ths equpment, please comply wth the followng safety precautons:
• Verfy that the nput voltage range prnted on the data label matches the local AC power to be used.
• Make sure that the power cord does not pose a potental obstacle or trppng hazard.
• Use only approved accessores and perpherals.
• Operate the equpment only under ambent condtons specfed n these nstructons.
• Dsconnect the equpment from the power supply when cleanng.
• Do not operate the equpment n hazardous or unstable envronments.
• Do not mmerse the equpment n water or other lquds.
• Servce should only be performed by authorzed personnel.
• The T51XW s suppled wth a grounded power cable. Use only wth a compatble grounded power outlet.
CAUTION: ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD. REMOVE ALL POWER CONNECTIONS TO THE INDICATOR
BEFORE SERVICING OR MAKING INTERNAL CONNECTIONS. THE HOUSING SHOULD ONLY BE OPENED BY
AUTHORIZED AND QUALIFIED PERSONNEL, SUCH AS AN ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN.
Before makng connectons to the Relay termnals, remove power from the system. If the system contans an optonal
rechargeable battery system, be sure that the ON/ZERO Off button s used to fully turn off the system after removng the AC power
plug.

. INSTALLATION
.1 Unpacking
Unpack the followng tems:
• T51P or T51XW Indcator • Capacty Label Sheet
• AC Power Cord (T51P only) • LFT Sealng kt
• Mountng Bracket • Instructon Manual CD
• Knobs (2) • Warranty Card
For connectng bases wth a connector to a T51XW (whch does not have the external connector), a Load Cell Cable Adapter
Kt p/n 80500736 s avalable as an accessory. Ths kt connects to the termnal block nsde the T51XW and has an external
connector on the other end.
T51P
Remove the four Phllps head screws from the rear housng.
Remove the front housng beng careful not to dsturb the nternal connectons.
Once all connectons are made, reattach the front housng.
T51XW
Remove the four hex head screws from the rear housng.
Open the housng by carefully pullng the front housng forward.
Once all connectons are made, reattach the front housng.
The screws should be tghtened to 2.5 N m (20-25 n-lb) torque to ensure a watertght seal.

After wrng s completed and jumpers are n place, replace the ndcator housng screws. Make sure the lqud-tght connector s
properly tghtened.

For menu tems wth numerc settngs such as Capacty, the current settng s dsplayed wth all dgts flashng.
Press the No button to begn edtng.
The frst dgt s dsplayed flashng.
Press the No button to ncrement the dgt or press the Yes button to accept the dgt and move to the next dgt.
Press the Yes button when the last dgt has been set.
The new settng s dsplayed wth all dgts flashng. Press the Yes button to accept the settng or press the No
button to resume edtng.
Ths method also apples to settng Checkwegh under and over targets.
For End menu tems, pressng the Yes button advances to the next menu, whle pressng the No button returns
to the top of the current menu.
The dsplay flashes 0 and the calbraton unt. Press the Yes button to establsh the zero pont.
The dsplay shows --C-- whle the zero pont s establshed.
Then the scale exts to the actve weghng mode and dsplays the actual weght value.
When SPAN s dsplayed, press the Yes button to ntate Span Calbraton.
The dsplay flashes the span calbraton pont. Place the specfed weght on the scale and press the Yes
button.
To choose a dfferent span pont or calbraton unt, edt the settng as explaned n Secton 3.2 Menu
Navgaton. When the desred settng s dsplayed, place the specfed weght on the scale and press the Yes
button.
Wth no weght on the scale, press the Yes button to establsh the zero pont.
Then the scale exts to the actve weghng mode and dsplays the actual weght value.

The dsplay flashes the full calbraton pont and calbraton unt. Place the specfed weght on the scale and
press the Yes button.
To choose a dfferent full pont or calbraton unt (kg or lb), edt the settng as explaned n Secton 3.2 Menu
Navgaton. When the desred settng s dsplayed, place the specfed weght on the scale and press the Yes
button.

The dsplay flashes 0. Wth no weght on the scale, press the Yes button to record the current zero pont.
The dsplay flashes the span calbraton weght usng the value from the last calbraton. The example shows
test weght of 30 kg.
Place the specfed test weght on the scale and press the Yes button.
The dsplay shows --t-- whle the data s processed.
The dsplay flashes the actual dfference between the calbraton data and the test weght.
The example shows a 0.010 kg dfference. The result of the Calbraton Test s prnted.
After 5 seconds, Calbraton Test ends, the scale returns to the actve weghng mode and dsplays the current
weght.
NOTE: Only an authorzed manufacturer’s representatve or certfed verfcaton personnel may make these
•
changes. Changng the geographcal settng alters the calbraton values. •

..1 Reset
Reset the Setup menu to the factory defaults. (except Range, Capacty and Graduaton)
NO = not reset.
YES = reset.
NOTE: If the Legal for Trade menu tem s set to ON, the Range, Capacty, Graduaton, Zero Range, Auto Tare,
Retan Weght Data and Legal For Trade settngs are not reset.
.. Range
Set the number of weghng ranges.
SINGLE = one weghng range from zero to full capacty.
dUAL = two weghng ranges, where range 1 s from zero to half capacty and range 2 s from
half capacty to full capacty.
.. Capacity
Set the scale capacty as explaned n Secton 3.2 Menu Navgaton.
NOTE: If dUAL was selected n the rANGE menu tem, the Capacty settng defnes the Range 2 capacty. The
Range 1 capacty s automatcally defned as half of the Capacty settng. For example, f Capacty s set to
15, the Range 1 capacty becomes 7.5.
.. Graduation
Set the scale readablty.
0.00001, 0.00002, 0.00005, 0.0001, 0.0002, 0.0005, 0.001, 0.002, 0.005, 0.01, 0.02,
0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000.
NOTE: Graduaton settngs are lmted to values from Capacty dvded by 1000 to Capacty dvded by
•
30000. Therefore, not all settngs are avalable for each capacty.

NOTE: If dUAL was selected n the rANGE menu tem, the Graduaton settng defnes the Range 1 graduaton.
The Range 2 graduaton s automatcally defned as one step greater than the Graduaton settng. For
example, f Graduaton s set to 0.001, the Range 2 graduaton becomes 0.002.
NOTE: Range 2 graduaton s retaned even under half capacty untl the scale returns to zero.
NOTE: Unts oz, lb:oz and C (custom) wll not be vald as Power On unts when Range s set to Dual. The
next avalable unt wll be dsplayed nstead
.. Auto-Tare
Set the Automatc Tare functonalty.
OFF = Automatc Tare s dsabled.
ON = the frst stable gross weght wll be tared.
ACCEPt = when the applcaton mode s CHECK, stable gross weght that s wthn the
Checkwegh accept lmts wll be tared.
NOTE: When Legal for Trade s set to ON, the Menu settngs are affected as follows:
• Calbraton functons are hdden except for Calbraton Test.
• Capacty s read-only.
• Range, Graduaton, Power On unt, Auto-Tare, Retan Zero, Gross Indcaton, Prnt Output, Unt and Mode
settngs are locked at ther current settngs.
• Zero Range s locked at 2%.
• Stable Range s locked at 1d.
• Auto-Zero Trackng s set to 0.5d.
• Contnuous Prnt s dsabled.
• IP and CP RS232 commands are dsabled.
NOTE: When Legal for Trade s set to ON, t s necessary to set the securty swtch to ON before extng the
menu. If the securty swtch s not set to ON, the message “NO.SW” s dsplayed and the ndcator returns to
the menu.

.5.1 Reset
Set the Readout menu to factory default settngs.
NO = not reset
YES = reset
If the Legal for Trade menu tem s set to ON, the Stable Range, Averagng Level, Auto Zero Trackng, Auto Off
and Gross settngs are not reset.
NOTE: When LFT s set to ON, the settng s forced to 1 d. The settng s locked when the hardware lock
swtch s set to the ON poston.
.5. Filter
Set the amount of sgnal flterng.
LOW = less stablty, faster stablzaton tme (<1 sec.)
MEd = normal stablty, stablzaton tme (<2 sec.)
HI = greater stablty, slower stablzaton tme (<3 sec.)
NOTE: When the LFT menu tem s set to ON, the selectons are lmted to 0.5d, 1d and 3d. The settng s
locked when the hardware lock swtch s set to the ON poston.

.5.5 Backlight
Set the dsplay backlght functonalty.
OFF = always off.
ON = always on.
AUtO = turns on when a button s pressed or the dsplayed weght changes.
When Auto s selected, set Backlght shut off tme.
Settngs:
SEt 1 = backlght turns off after 1 mnute of no actvty.
SEt 2 = backlght turns off after 2 mnute of no actvty.
SEt 5 = backlght turns off after 5 mnute of no actvty.

Type
Set the ntal state of the relay.
OPEN = the relay output s normally open.
CLOSEd = the relay output s normally closed.
CAUTION: The normally closed relay condton s only actve whle the Indcator s powered on.
When powered off or when power s removed, the relay condton returns to a normally open
condton. Restorng power to the Indcator wll restore the closed condton of the relays.
Output Sequence
Set how the relay outputs react as the weght readng changes from under / accept / over.
NOrM = the prevously enabled relay wll be dsabled as the next relay s enabled.
HOLd = the prevously enabled relay wll hold the same state as the next relay s enabled.

Set the tmng of the relay contacts.
NOTE: A 100 ms delay or over-lap s used for the break-before-make and make-before-break tmng.
Stable
Set how the relay outputs react durng nstablty.

Advance to the next menu.
Use ths menu to prevent unauthorzed changes to menu settngs. When the securty Reset No, Yes

.1.1 Reset
Set the menu Lock menu to factory defaults.

NOTE: Settngs for LFT controlled menu tems are not reset.
NOTE: When the Menu button s locked, the user may unlock ths button by holdng the Menu button for 10
seconds untl UNLOCK s dsplayed. The hardware Lock Swtch must be n the unlocked poston.
Open the housng as explaned n Secton 2.3.1. Set the poston of securty swtch SW2 to ON as shown n Fgure 1-3.

. OPERATION
.1 Turning Indicator On/Off
To turn the Indcator on, press the ON/ZERO Off button. The Indcator performs a dsplay test followed by a
seres of nformatonal dsplays, and then enters the actve weghng mode.
To turn the Indcator off, press and hold the ON/ZERO Off button untl OFF s dsplayed.
Press the ON/ZERO Off button to zero the weght dsplay. The scale must be stable to accept zero operaton.
Place the empty contaner on the scale (example 0.5 kg) and press the TARE button. The dsplay wll show
the net weght.
To clear the Tare value, empty the scale and press the TARE button. The dsplay wll show the gross weght.
The dsplay wll show the Pre-set Tare as a negatve value, wth the PT Indcator on.
NOTES: 1. The PT value wll supersede any other Tare or PT value n memory.
2. When usng Pre-Set Tare, make sure that Auto-Tare functon s set off n the Setup menu.
3. If the Tare entry ncludes dgts beyond the readablty of the Indcator, the tare value s rounded off
to the readablty of the Indcator.
To clear a Pre-set Tare value, empty the scale then press the TARE button. The dsplay wll show the Gross
weght.
.5 Auto-Tare
Auto-Tare automatcally tares the ntal weght (such as a contaner) placed on the empty scale, wthout
havng to press the TARE button. The tare value s cleared automatcally when the weght on the scale s fully
removed.
Durng Checkweghng operaton, f the On Accept settng s selected n the Setup menu, weght values that are
wthn the accept range wll be tared automatcally.
Press the PRINT Units button to send the dsplayed data to the communcaton port (the Auto-Prnt Mode n Secton 3.9 functon
must be Off).
..1 Weighing
Place the tem to be weghed on the scale. The llustraton ndcates a sample of 1.5 kg, Gross weght.
NOTE: Press the FUNCTION Mode button to temporarly dsplay the weght n 10x expanded resoluton.
NOTE: Press the FUNCTION Mode button to temporarly dsplay the APW value.
To establsh the APW, place the specfed quantty of samples on the scale and press the FUNCTION Mode
button to capture the weght.
APW s dsplayed shortly followed by the APW value wth the current unt of measure.
Begin Counting
Place the parts on the scale and read the count. If a contaner s used, be sure to tare the empty contaner
frst.
NOTE: Press the FUNCTION Mode button to temporarly dsplay the reference weght.
Establishing a New Reference Weight
The dsplay shows Put.rEF %.
To establsh the Ref Wt, place the sample on the scale and press the FUNCTION Mode button to capture the
weght. rEF.Wt s dsplayed shortly followed by the REF Wt value wth the current unt of measure.

If the manual mode s n use, press the FUNCTION Mode button to start measurement. If the sem-automatc
or automatc mode s n use, measurement s started automatcally.

NOTE: When usng manual mode, t s not necessary for the dsplay to be at zero gross or net. When usng
•
sem-automatc or automatc mode, the dsplay must be at zero gross or net before placng the object on
•
the scale. The example s for a settng of 5 seconds. Durng the averagng perod, the countdown tmer
decreases n one second ncrements.
NOTE: If SEt 0 was selected n the Dynamc menu tem, the countdown tmer s not dsplayed.
When the countdown has completed, the readngs are averaged and held on the dsplay.

5. SERIAL COMMUNICATION
The T51P and T51XW Indcators nclude an RS232 seral communcaton nterface.
The setup of RS232 operatng parameters are more fully explaned n Secton 3.10. The physcal hardware connecton s
explaned n Secton 2.6.
The nterface enables dsplay and GMP data to be sent to a computer or prnter. A computer can be used to control some
functons of the ndcator usng the commands lsted n Table 5-1.
NOTES:
1) Commands sent to the Indcator must be termnated wth a carrage return (CR) or carrage return-lne feed (CRLF).
2) Alternate command characters may be defned by the user (see Alternate Commands n Secton 3.10).
3) Data output by the Indcator s always termnated wth a carrage return-lne feed (CRLF).
4) These commands are only avalable when Prnt>Output s set to C11 (see Secton 3.9.6).

.1 Settings
Before verfcaton and sealng, perform the followng steps:
1. Verfy that the menu settngs meet the local weghts and measures regulatons.
2. Perform a calbraton as explaned n Secton 3.
3. Set Legal for Trade to ON n the Setup menu.
4. Wthout extng the menu, turn the ndcator off.
5. Dsconnect power from the ndcator and open the housng as explaned n Secton 2.3.1.
6. Set the poston of the securty swtch SW2 to ON as shown n Fgure 1-3, tem 4.
7. Close the housng.
8. Reconnect power and turn the ndcator on.
NOTE: When Legal for Trade s set to ON and the securty swtch s set to ON, the followng menu settngs cannot be changed:
