Introduction

Thank you for using our Fleet Management System , the premier web-based application for
tracking and managing air, sea, and ground-based assets. We provide street-level detail that
enables dispatchers to precisely pinpoint an asset’s location anytime and anywhere on the
planet. Dispatchers can view real-time data such as location and status to keep track of all their
assets from one location.

About this Document

The System documentation suite contains three components:

Quick Start User Guide: This guide contains key concepts to help you quickly begin using
the Map application.

As a user, you can track assets in real-time, view asset activity, and generate reports. This Quick
Start User Guide covers the following topics:
 Logging into the Map’s web-based interface
 Tracking assets and viewing asset activity
 Finding addresses
 Adding user-defined locations
 Changing map views

Quick Start Administrator Guide: This guide contains key concepts to help you quickly configure
and maintain your system.

Online Help: An online Help system is integrated with our Fleet Management System, it contains the
complete text of the printed documentation, enhanced with features like full-text search to make it easier
for you to find what you are looking for.

System Requirements

Our Fleet Management System is a web-based tracking application requiring minimal system resources to
operate. A Pentium class PC with an active internet connection capable of running Adobe Flash player will
provide a positive user experience.

Minimum Application Requirements

 Active Internet connection

 Computer capable of running Adobe Flash 10 or greater
 Compatible Internet browser with JavaScript enabled
 Valid username and password
 In corporate environments firewall configuration may be required to allow TCP/UDP traffic on
port 9376.

Minimum Recommended Hardware Configuration

As a general rule, larger screen resolutions require more processing and memory for Flash to render maps
at optimal levels. The tables below should be viewed as minimum recommended configurations given a
users operating environment. The Fleet Management System may operate without error on other
platforms but performance cannot be guaranteed.

Windows® Macintosh Linux®

PowerPC® G3 500MHz or
Intel® Pentium® II 450MHz or faster Modern processor (800MHz
faster processor
processor (or equivalent) or faster)

512MB of RAM, 128MB of

*Processor speeds are recommended based upon Adobe Systems Inc. testing.

Supported Operating Systems and Browsers

Flash Player 10 is supported on the following minimum operating systems and browsers:

Windows
Platform Browser
Microsoft® Windows Vista®/7 Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2.0. Google Chrome
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, Firefox 1.x, Firefox 2.x.,

Minimum Recommended Internet Speed

The speed of map rendering is a combination of the amount of data on a user’s map and the screen
resolution of their monitor. Higher resolution monitors require additional bandwidth for map rendering as
map data is larger (in file size). For Full-screen high resolution mapping user should have a minimum of a
512kbps internet connection.

Users who are unable to receive 128kbps or faster connectivity should reduce use of Imagery layers or
reduce screen resolutions to improve speeds.

PLEASE NOTE:

While our Fleet Management System may be utilized successfully under any operating system running
Adobe Flash 10+, technical support is currently provided on Windows and Macintosh platforms only.

assets. Several general actions are also available in the Take Action menu.

Selecting an asset displays summary asset statistics in the Results tab of the Work
pane. To view the current location of an asset on the map, select the asset from the
list and click the Move to Asset link in the Take Action menu. The map changes to
indicate the location and the asset will appear either with a directional ring or a
colored shadow. Current information about the asset displays in the ’Results’ dialogue
box below the map.

Viewing Asset Status

The directional rings that surround each asset in the My Fleet tab provide quick-glance
information about the current status of each asset. This setting is an option. You may instead
see a colored shadow around the asset. This will also indicate status.

Figure 25: Assets list showing directional ring color associations.

The color of the directional ring differs, depending on the status of the asset. The following table
describes the meaning of each ring color.

Table 14: Asset Status Directional Ring Colors and Meanings.

Ring Color Meaning

White or No Ring Asset is not currently active.

Green Asset is active and is currently moving (in the direction indicated by
the point of the directional ring).

Magenta Asset is active but is currently stationary.

Red Asset has triggered a digital input alarm. Asset will be listed in the
Events tab of the left pane, showing more information about the alert.

Yellow Asset is currently being tracked on the Map application.

The directional rings also surround the assets on the map portion of the Map application.

Filtering Assets

The Assets list allows you to filter the list to show all assets or only active assets. The filter also lets
you select to view only active assets with a specific current status.
Note: When you select to filter the Assets list, the filtering also applies to the assets shown on the
map.

1. Select Filter from the Take Action menu.

The Fleet Filter tab appears in the ‘Results’ dialogue box.

Figure 27: Fleet Filter tab.

2. Select to view All assets or to view Active assets.

3. If you select to view Active assets, you may then select to view only those assets
in a particular state. You may select one or all states from the Filter by State
list. You may also select to view only those assets in a particular group by
selecting them from the Filter by Group list.
4. When finished, click Apply Filter.

The My Fleet tab reloads the list as you selected to filter it.
Note: Depending on your filtering selections and internet connection speed, reloading the
updated list and filtered map may take a few minutes.

Searching for Assets

The Find text box located at the top of the Assets list under the ‘My Fleet’ tab allows you to
search for specific assets based on their name.

To search for assets, begin typing in the Find text box. The listed assets are filtered to only show
those assets whose names correspond with the text entered into the box.

Note: The search only works against the assets that appear in the list. If you have filtered the list, using
the Filter text box will filter the list further but will not show assets that were not already
present in the list.

Viewing Stacked Assets

Frequently, the assets appearing in the Assets list are in such close proximity to one another that
they cannot be displayed separately on the map. In this case, the assets are “stacked” in the
display and indicated with a grey rectangle that also demonstrates a number that corresponds
to the number of assets in the stack and being represented by the icon ( ). The icon can
also be surrounded by a colored shadow to indicate the state of the majority of the assets

within the stack. (ex: & ).

Another way to see how many assets are stacked in one location is to hover your mouse over the
icon. A label appears indicating the number of assets stacked in that location.

Figure 28: Map showing number of stacked assets.

44
Tracking Vehicles

To see which assets are stacked in a particular location, click on the stacked asset icon.
Information for the assets will be located in the Results tab of the Work pane.

Figure 29: Map showing list of stacked assets.

Note: Because of the viewing scale, you may see stacked asset icons in a location, but not see those
icons when zooming into that area. This is because the updated scale of the map allows
individual assets to be shown.

Tracking Assets

By choosing to track a asset, you can set the map to follow a particular asset as it changes
location. The asset being tracked appears with a yellow directional ring around it ( ), both in the
Assets list and on the map, if this option is selected.

To track a asset, select a asset from the Assets list in the My Fleet tab and click Track Asset in the
Take Action menu. If the tracked asset is not in the current map view, the map view changes to
include the tracked asset. In addition, a tracking indicator appears in the Map application footer.

45
Tracking Vehicles

To track multiple assets, the Multiple Window Tracking function must be enabled. To do so:

1. Go to the ‘My Map’ tab.

2. Click ‘Map Preferences’.
3. Go to the ‘Forced Preferences’ tab if available to you and/or the ‘Default’ tab.
4. Ensure that ‘Multiple Window Tracking’ is enabled.
5. Click ‘Save’.
6. Go to the ‘Your Preferences’ tab.
7. Ensure that ‘Multiple Window Tracking’ is enabled.
8. Click ‘Save’.
9. Return to the Map View

When the multiple window tracking is enabled, by choosing to track a asset, you can open up a
new window to the left of the dialogue box on the left which is set to follow that particular asset
as it changes location. To track a asset, select a asset from the Assets list in the My Fleet tab and
click Track Asset in the Take Action menu. You can track up to 3 separate assets at one time (ie. 3
tracking windows will be opened, each one following the location of a separate asset). The zoom
level of the tracking windows can be adjusted under ‘Map Preferences’. When you want to stop
tracking a asset, just close the tracking window.

With respect to tracking assets while the multiple window tracking option is disabled, be advised of
the following points:

Only one asset can be tracked at a time. If the Track Asset link does not appear, another asset is
currently being tracked. Click Turn Tracking Off to clear the tracking from the other asset and
enable tracking to be set on the selected asset.

46
Tracking Vehicles

The map view may change to include the tracked asset but the zoom level of the map remains the
same. If you need a closer view of the tracked asset, select it from the Assets list and click Zoom
To.

Depending on the zoom level of the map, you may not immediately notice the tracked asset in
the map. If the map is zoomed out significantly (for example, to show the United States) the map
view may not change because the tracked item already appears on the map.

If you do not see the tracked asset on the map (asset with a yellow directional ring), it is possible
that the asset may be stacked with another asset. Select the asset from the Assets list and click
Find Asset or Zoom To to locate it on the map.

When you are finished tracking a asset, click the Tracking Off link from the Take Action menu. You
do not have to select the specific asset from the list.
