23.Should our country have a universal health care program?

The medical system in the USA is one that has baffled me for a long time. How can one of the
most advanced countries on earth not have universal health care? In my opinion, universal
healthcare should be a priority for the government.

Firstly, it is a well-known fact that Americans are not the healthiest people. In fact, the US has
one of the highest rates of obesity in the entire world. This condition facilitates the appearance of
many more diseases, such as heart complications, which is the leading cause of death. A better
health care system would not completely eradicate all of these conditions, but it would certainly
help reduce them. Furthermore, schools should introduce classes in which children learn basic
facts about eating healthily and how to combat over-eating. This would help combat obesity, and
in turn, lower risks caused by it.

Secondly, a better health care system could actually benefit the economy of the country. This
may seem counter-intuitive, however, increasing the general healthiness of the citizens leads to
more work force. Sure, at first it would require huge investments, likely covered by taxes. But, in
the long run, this investment will pay off and start generating profit, because the people suffering
from diseases could get better treatment for less money, thus allowing them to keep contributing
to the economy by still working rather than just sit in a hospital bed, slowly losing their money
on overpriced services.

To sum up, I strongly consider that the introduction of a universal health care program could
bring huge benefits to both citizens and the economy of the country. At first it is costly, but if
you think about the future of the country, it surely is the right way of moving forward.
