you need to stay connected to the VPN for the time you are using the program. The program will
open as the Education version.

PTC Creo with the VPN established.

• On your computer, Navigate to C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo

5.0.xxxx\Parametric\bin and right click ptcborrow and select Run as
administrator. You might want to create a shortcut for future use.
• In the pop-up window select the borrowing period (up to 5 days at a
time)
• Click Start and Creo will open as the Education version.
You may then disconnect from the VPN.
• Subsequently, during the borrowing period, you will be able to open
CP in the normal way. The program will automatically use the
Education version license. You do not need to be online for this.
• Repeat at the end of the borrowing period.

Make sure that every time you use the software that you have first established a single level
directory, a project folder, and make that your working directory as the first action when once you
have started the program.

Running PTC Creo on Apple computers

PTC Creo is written for computers running Microsoft’s Windows operating system and is not
supported on MacOSX. Below are some methods that you can attempt to get PTC Creo 5.0 to run on
MacOSX.

Recent Apple computers are built around the same Intel chipsets as PCs providing two methods of
installing and running PTC Creo.

Dual boot

A license for MS Windows is purchased and the Apple computer is set up with two boot options;
MacOSX or Windows. When booted into windows, PTC Creo can be installed and run.

Windows emulation
There are a number of Windows emulators for Apple computers. Parallels Desktop for Mac can be
purchased through IMTS.

Install Parallels or similar. It creates a partitioned drive for you to run windows through and then you
install software (Creo, Mathcad etc.) as normal.

Graphics performance

All 3D modelling software makes heavy demands on computer graphics cards. On some computers
settings in the graphics card may need to be changed to get PTC Creo to work efficiently. In some
situations PTC Creo may need to be reconfigured.
