My Coaching Philosophy

As a coach, I am supposed to be there for my players, both on and off the field. On the field,

it is my responsibility to help them work on their skills and be the best possible player they can be.

Off the field, I must be someone that they can look up to and trust.

I will have a vision for my program. That vision will be every time my team takes the field,

they will be putting forth their best self. For me, as their coach, I am representing the team and the

school district in the best possible way. I will demonstrate to my players what it means to have

good sportsmanship and how to always respect the game, which includes the other team, fans and

the officials. I will always teach and engage in ethical behavior. If a player breaks a school rule or a

team rule, they will understand there are consequences. I feel that this is the best way to show my

players that even if they are our best players, they are not and will not be above the rules.

It is very important for school athletes to have good grade in their classes. I would expect

their grades to be above passing. My players will be aware of my expectations from the start. In

the event they are failing a class, I will meet with them. If they need a tutor, I will help them find

one. If they are not applying themselves or being lazy, I will not let them play. They need to

understand that school is more important than playing in the game. They are student-athletes, the

student comes first.

Building relationships is very important especially with the stakeholders because they

control the funding of the team. At the start of each season I would hold a meeting with the

stakeholders. The purpose of the meeting would be to share with them my plans for the year, my

values as a coach, and the team goals. I will invite them to a practice and a game so they can see

first-hand what we are doing during the season. This is as also a great time for them to meet and get
to know some of the players. Having these good relationships will help team funding and help team

morale. I will create a safe and positive environment for my athletes by always having a good

attitude even when we are losing in the game.

Safety is something I take very seriously. I will never over work my players, and I will make

sure they always get rest and stay hydrated. Mental safety is also important, I will make sure my

players are always respectful to each other and supportive. I believe that having a positive

environment is essential to any team.

I will hold practices every day except on game day. The day before each game will be a light

day where we just run through the main points of the game. The days following a game I will spend

the first hour of practice going over the film and what we need to improve or highlight what we did

well. At practice we will work in groups based on position, working on skills then scrimmage the last

thirty minutes of practice. If I feel like I need to stop to go over things I will and make sure we are

heading down the right path. It’s important to stay on task during practice, so no one gets hurt

Competition will be present in any sport; I will stress to my players to get plenty of sleep and

be hydrated prior to a game. On game day I will get the players together in the locker room and go

over the main points, give them some advice and guidance before the game. I will always huddle

the team together and break the huddle by saying “no matter what happens out there, play your

hardest, have fun and be safe.”
