A.      Instruction: In the scenario given below, try to make a reflection about what moral
action to undertake. You may write your answer in the given space provided:

Scenario

A father on a boat with his 10-year old son saw his son fall off the boat when the latter lost
his balance. He plunged into the river to save his son, but in the process was swept by the
strong current and drowned together with his son. The father left behind four young
children. Confronted with the reality that there are now four fatherless children, a
pediatrician, tasked with saving the lives of as many children as possible, says that on
balance the father should not have risked his life.

Did the father act morally in attempting the rescue? If the father did not try to rescue
his son, he could have easily justified it, for example, by saying that he did not know
how to swim. It might take great courage to do that. Now you have two deaths in the
family, instead of one. Is there any other correct moral option to this scenario?
