GRAMMAR: PRESENT PERFECT
The present perfect is used to say that an action happened at
an unspecified time before now. The exact time is not
important. The uses of the present perfect simple:
▪ To put emphasis on the result
▪ to express an action that is still going on
▪ to talk about an action that stopped recently
▪ to express a finished action that has an influence on the
present
The Present Perfect cannot be used with The Present Perfect can be used with
specific time expressions as: unspecific expressions such as:
 yesterday,  ever,
 two years ago,  never,
 last month,  once,
 when I was born,  for five minutes/ two weeks,
 at that moment,  since Tuesday,
 that day,  many times,
 one day….  several times,
 before,
 so far,
 already,
 in the last year,
 yet….
Present Perfect Simple - Form Examples:

Affirmative Subject + have/has + past participle I have lived in Japan since


2001.
He has lived in Japan since
2001

Negative Subject + have/has + not + past I haven’t lived in Japan


participle since 2001.
He hasn’t lived in Japan
since 2001.

Interrogative Have/has + subject + past participle Have I lived in Japan since
