1 Introduction
ThisUPSprotectsyoursensitiveelectronicequipmentfrommostcommonpowerproblems,including
power failures, power sags, power surges, brownouts, line noise, high voltage spikes, frequency
variations,switchingtransients,andharmonicdistortion.
Poweroutagesmightoccurunexpectedlyandpowerqualitycanbeerratic.Thesepowerproblems
havepotentialtocorruptcriticaldata,destroyunsavedworksessions,anddamagehardware —
causinghoursoflostproductivityandexpensiverepairs.

This manual contains important instructions that you should follow during
installationandmaintenanceoftheUPSandbatteries.Pleasereadallinstructions
beforeoperatingtheequipmentandsavethismanualforfuturereference.
DANGER
TheUPScontainsLETHAL VOLTAGES.Allrepairsandserviceshouldbeperformed
byAUTHORIZED SERVICE PERSONNEL ONLY. ThereareNO USER SERVICEABLE
PARTSinsidetheUPS.
WARNING
TheUPScontainsitsownenergysource(batteries).TheUPSoutputmaycarry
livevoltageevenwhentheUPSisnotconnectedtoanACsupply.
Toreducetheriskoffireorelectricshock,installtheUPSinatemperatureand
humidity controlled, indoor environment, free of conductive contaminants.
Ambienttemperaturemustnotexceed40°C(104°F).Donotoperatenearwater
orexcessivehumidity(90%maximum).
Toreducetheriskoffire,connectonlytoacircuitprovidedwithbranchcircuit
overcurrent protection in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC),
ANSI/NFPA70.
Output overcurrent protection and disconnect switch must be provided by
others.
Tocomplywithinternationalstandardsandwiringregulations,thesumofthe
leakagecurrentoftheUPSandthetotalequipmentconnectedtotheoutputof
theUPSmustnothaveanearthleakagecurrentgreaterthan3.5milliamperes.
IfinstallingoptionalrackmountEBP(s),installtheEBP(s)directlybelowtheUPS
sothatallwiringbetweenthecabinetsisinstalledbehindthefrontcoversandis
inaccessibletousers.ThemaximumnumberofEBP(s)perUPSisfour.
IftheUPSrequiresanytypeoftransportation,verifythattheUPSisunplugged
andturnedoffandthendisconnecttheUPSinternalbatteryconnector.

CAUTION
Batteries can present a risk of electrical shock or burn from high short-circuit
current. Observe proper precautions. Servicing should be performed by
qualified service personnel knowledgeable of batteries and required
precautions.Keepunauthorizedpersonnelawayfrombatteries.
Proper disposal of batteries is required. Refer to your local codes for disposal
requirements.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. Batteries may explode when exposed to
flame.

youdiscoverdamageafteracceptance,fileaclaimforconcealeddamage.
Tofileaclaimforshippingdamageorconcealeddamage:1)Filewiththecarrierwithin15
daysofreceiptoftheequipment;2)Sendacopyofthedamageclaimwithin15daystoyour
servicerepresentative.
NOTECheckthebatteryrechargedateontheshippingcartonlabel.Ifthedatehasexpiredandthebatteries
wereneverrecharged,donotusetheUPS.Contactyourservicerepresentative.
UnpackingtheCabinet
CAUTION
Unpacking the cabinet in a low-temperature environment may cause
condensationtooccurinandonthecabinet.Donotinstallthecabinetuntilthe
insideandoutsideofthecabinetareabsolutelydry(hazardofelectricshock).
Thecabinetisheavy(seepage44).Becarefultounpackandmovethecabinet.
Carefully to move and open the carton. Keep the components packaged until
readytoinstall.
Tounpackthecabinetandaccessories:
1.Opentheoutercartonandremovetheaccessoriespackagedwiththecabinet.
2.Carefullyliftthecabinetoutoftheoutercarton.
3.Discardorrecyclethepackaginginaresponsiblemanner,orstoreitforfuture
use.
Place the cabinet in a protected area that has adequate airflow and is free of

Rackmount Setup
CAUTION
The cabinet is heavy. Removing the cabinet from its carton requires a
minimumoftwopeople.
If installing optional EBP(S), make sure to install the EBP(S) directly below the
UPSsothatallwiringbetweenthecabinetsisinstalledbehindthefrontcovers
andinaccessibletousers.
NOTEMountingrailsarerequiredforeachindividualcabinet
To install the rail kit:
1. AssembletheleftandrightrailstotherearrailsasshowninFIG.3.Donottightenthescrews.
Adjusteachrailsizeforthedepthofyourrack.

connectedtotheUPS.Connectblacktoblack,.Presstheconnectortightlytogethertoensurea
properconnection.
ToconnectasecondEBP,uncliptheEBPconnectoronthefirstEBPandpullgentlytoextendthe
wiringtotheEBPconnectoronthesecondEBP.RepeatforanyadditionalEBPS.
6. VerifythattheEBPconnectionsaretightandtheadequatebendradiusandstrainreliefexistfor
eachcable.

UPS Initial Startup
TostartuptheUPS:
NOTE Verify that the total equipment ratings do not exceed the UPS capacity to
preventanoverloadalarm.
1. IfoptionalEBPsareinstalled,verifythattheEBPsareconnectedtotheUPS.
2. Plug the equipment to be protected into the UPS, but do not turn on the
protectedequipment.
3. Makeanynecessaryprovisionsforcordretentionandstrainrelief.
4. PlugthedetachableUPSpowercordintotheinputconnectorontheUPSrear
cover.
5. Plug the UPS power cord into a power outlet. The UPS front cover display
illuminates.
6. The UPS will do self-test when power on. After that, the charger will
chargethebattery.IftheoutputdisplayedonLCDis“0”,thereisnooutput.
IfyouneedtheUPSoutputtheutilitywithoutstartingtheUPSwhenpluginto
theutility,youneedtosetbPSoptionto“ON”onthesettingmode,referto
Page26.
7. PressthecombinationstartupbuttonsontheUPSfrontcoverforatleasthalfa
second.TheUPSwillstartupandtheLEDwillturnonandoffsequentially.
8. ChecktheUPSfrontcoverdisplayforactivealarmsornotices.Resolveanyactive
alarms before continuing. See Troubleshooting” on page 49. If the
indicator is on, do not proceed until all alarms are clear.Check the UPS
statusfromthefrontcovertoviewtheactivealarms.Correctthealarmsand
restartifnecessary.

9. Verify that the indicator illuminates solid, indicating that the UPS is
operatingnormallyandanyloadsarepowered.
10. IfoptionalEBPsareinstalled,see “ConfiguringBatterysettings” onpage28
tosetthenumberofinstalledEBPs.
11. Tochangeanyotherfactory-setdefaults,see“Usersettings”onpage25.
NOTE: At initial startup, the UPS sets system frequency according to input line
frequency(inputfrequencyauto-sensingisenabledbydefault).
NOTE: Atinitialstartup,pleasesettheoutputvoltageneededbeforestartupthe
UPS,Afterthesubsequentstartup,theUPSwilloutputthesettingvoltage.
12. If you installed an optional EPO, test the EPO function: Activate the external
EPO switch. Verify the status change on the UPS display. Deactivate the
externalEPOswitchandrestarttheUPS.
NOTE:Theinternalbatterieschargeto80%capacityinlessthan5hours.However,
werecommendthatthebatteriesshouldbechargedfor48hoursafterinstallation
orlong-termstorage.IfoptionalEBPsareinstalled,seetherechargetimeslistedin
Table21onpage48.
4 Operation
ThischaptercontainsinformationonhowtousetheUPS,includingfrontcoveroperation,operating
modes, UPS startup and shutdown, transferring the UPS between modes, and configuring bypass
settings,loadsegments,andbatterysettings.

When the communication cable is installed, power management software can
exchangedatawiththeUPS.ThesoftwarepollstheUPSfordetailedinformationon
the status of the power environment. If a power emergency occurs, the software
initiatesthesavingofalldataandanorderlyshutdownoftheequipment.Thecable

EmergencyPower-off
EPO is used to shut down the UPS from a distance. This feature can be used for
shuttingdowntheloadandtheUPSbythermalrelay,forinstanceintheeventof
roomovertemperature.WhenEPOisactivated,theUPSshutsdowntheoutputand
allitspowerconvertersimmediately.TheUPSremainsontoalarmthefault.
ThereisalsoafrontpanelEPOoptionforusertoinitialEPOfunctionbypressingthe
threeswitchonthefrontpaneltogether.Whenthethreeswitchesispresseddown
atthesametime,theEPOfunctionwillbeactive,UPSwillshutdownandthebuzzer
will long beep. Pressing startup switches will not turn on the UPS unless the EPO
function is deactivated by pressing the three switches together and press off
switchestoreturnnormalstatus.
WARNING
TheEPOcircuitisanIEC60950safetyextralowvoltage(SELV) circuit.Thiscircuit
mustbeseparatedfromanyhazardousvoltagecircuitsby reinforcedinsulation.
CAUTION
● The EPO must not be connected to any utility connected circuits. Reinforced
insulationtotheutilityisrequired.TheEPOswitchmusthaveaminimumratingof
24 Vdc and 20 mA and be a dedicated latching-type switch not tied into another

NOTE The batteries in the UPS are rated for a 3–5 year service life. The length of
servicelifevaries,dependingonthefrequencyofusageandambienttemperature.
Batteries used beyond expected service life will often have severely reduced
runtimes. Replace batteries at least every 5 years to keep units running at peak
efficiency.
StoringtheUPSandBatteries
If you store the UPS for a long period, recharge the battery every 6 months by
connectingtheUPStoutilitypower.Theinternalbatterieschargeto80%capacityin
lessthan5hours.However,werecommendsthatthebatterieschargefor48hours

Totestnewbatteries:
1.PlugtheUPSintoapoweroutletfor48hourstochargethe

2.StartuptheUPSbypressingthestartupcombinationbutton.
3.Pressthebatterytestcombinationbuttontoactivatethebatterytest.
TheUPSstartsabatterytestifthebatteriesarefullycharged,the
UPSisinNormalmodewithnoactivealarms,andthebypass
voltageisacceptable.
Duringthebatterytest,theUPStransferstoBatterymodeand
dischargesthebatteriesfor10seconds.TheLEDindicatorsofthefrontcoverstopcyclingwhenthe
testiscompleted.

Contact your local recycling or hazardous waste center for information on proper
disposaloftheusedbatteryorUPS.
