EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

ABC is a young, dynamic law firm which aims to provide high quality legal services at
affordable fees by seasoned legal practitioners who will leverage their outstanding legal
knowledge and experience to satisfy their client needs.

The firm will kickstart its operations from April 1, 2021.

The law firm is located in Fort, Mumbai – 400001.

The firm has 6 Partners –

Ms. Annie Lee
Ms. Shruti Desai,
Ms. Shalini Iyer,
Ms. Farah Khan,
Mr. Ramesh Shetty.

ABC is a limited liability Partnership Firm, who’s Managing Partner will be elected every 2
years.

ABC is a law firm specialising in the following areas

 CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL


Headed by Ms. Shruti Desai, a Solicitor, who has rich and diverse experience in
corporate and commercial matters along with real estate cases. Ms. Desai has worked
with several Tier- 1 law firms such as AZB and Partners and Amarchand Mangaldas
and can tackle client problems in a professional manner.
Ms. Anne Lee will also work in the said department. Ms. Lee is a Solicitor and was a
partner at “Dibbs and Jones & Associates” for 4 years. Ms. Lee’s international work
exposure will prove to be beneficial for the firm’s success.

 TAXATION
Headed by Ms. Shalini Iyer, a CA and an LLB, who has excellent knowledge for
“Doing Business in India”, Taxation and Drafting of commercial documents, and has
worked with Pricewaterhousecoppers Pvt. Ltd. For 4 years as a CA. Ms. Iyer can also
help the firm in getting domestic and international clients.

 INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS


Headed by Ms. Kanika Sengupta, who is exceptional in matters of Trademarks and
drafting contracts along with corporate work. Ms. Sengupta has worked for 3 years at
Orr Dignam and Co. She can attend to client matters in a smooth, efficient and timely
fashion, thus ensuring maximum client satisfaction.

 REAL ESTATE & LITIGATION


Headed by Ms. Farha Khan, a young graduate from ILS Pune. Ms. Khan has closely
worked in real estate and litigation matters for the last 5 years. Ms. Khan has also won
several Moot Awards including interstate awards, making her a reliable associate for
the Litigation Department as well.

The partners can accept work of prospective clients in practice areas not mentioned above
only with the prior approval of the managing partner, so as to ensure that the firm has the
requisite expertise to meet the clients’ best interests.
STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE

The firm has 6 working partners as mentioned above with an initial capital contribution of Rs.
150,000/- from each partner. As compensation for managerial duties, the firm pays Rs.
15,000/- to the Managing Partner.

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT

1. Personnel
The firm does not anticipate hiring associates or a receptionist till 2022. The firm will
hire 2 full time paralegals who will be compensated for Rs. 4000/- a month each.

2. Hardware and Software Systems


The firm plans to purchase GoClio, a cloud based legal case management system. All
client files will be stored electronically and backed up with GoClio. Manupatra and
SCCOnline will be purchased for legal research and Microsoft 360 for MS Office
applications such as spreadsheeting, word processing, and presentation software. Each
partner will have remote access connectivity to firm’s main server. The firm also
plans to purchase 1 high speed all in one digital printer/scanner, and 2 high quality
CCTV cameras for security purposes.

3. Location
Ms. Desai has agreed to let out her commercial premises of 600sq. feet located at
Fort, Mumbai for the firm. The firm will pay Rs. 25000/- per month as rent for the
said premises. The firm has agreed to purchase de installed furniture at a lump sum of
Rs. 100,000/- from a local market. The furniture includes 12 office chairs, 8 desks, 1
conference table which can accommodate 8 persons among other things.

MARKETING PLAN

1. Acquiring clients and initial marketing strategy


The firm’s partners have an excellent network of trust relationships in the service
areas. The partners have agreed to join 1 community-based organisations to widen
their clientele base. The firm plans to establish itself as an affordable alternative
for legal services in the specialized areas mentioned above. The firm also plans to
take up pro bono cases in the near future to give it back to the community and
help the marginalised sections of the society.

2. Competition
The firm will be able to provide bespoke legal services for approximately 20%
less than the other firms. The firm has a competitive edge over other firms owing
to its young yet experienced legal professionals, who can bring a fresh and
innovative approach in dealing with client problems. The partners have also
agreed to accept less compensation for the first 2 years of operation to ensure
sufficient working capital.

3. Website
The firm plans to launch its website by February, 2021. The partners have opted
for a local website designer and have reviewed websites of several renowned law
firms. The website will include additional contact information of the partners. The
website will also have a column for blogs on contemporary legal issues that the
firm deals in which will be regularly updated by the partners and could be
accessed by the general public.

4. Client service
The firms GoClio case management system will enable the clients to view their
files documents and messages anytime and anywhere. The clients can also request
for an alternate method of communication with the partners to avoid any
misunderstandings and miscommunications. The clients will be asked to write a
feedback form which could be submitted to the firm even anonymously.

5. Fees from Clients


The prospective clients the firm plans to tap on would primarily belong to the
middle income group to provide economical legal services to them. As the firm
wants to remain cost effective to clients, it intends to charge less than the average
industry standards, and hence hourly rates for partners will range from Rs. 2000/-
to Rs. 3500/-.
