1. What was the birdcatcher doing on the road?
Ans. The birdcatcher was selling the birds by visiting every house on the
road.

2. Where did Aunt Ruby get the parrot from?


Ans. Aunt Ruby got the parrot from a birdcatcher who visited all the
houses.

3. What did Aunt Ruby do after she bought the parrot?


Ans. Aunt Ruby bought the parrot and started teaching it how to talk.

4. What did the speaker feed the parrot?


Ans. The speaker fed the parrot green chillies, pieces of papaya, ripe
tomatoes and slices of mango.

II. Answer in brief.


1. How do the parrots learn to talk?
Ans. Parrots learn to talk by copying the words or phrases said in front
of them by some member of the household.
2. Why did the parrot dislike Aunt Ruby?
Ans. Aunt Ruby bought the parrot not because she liked the parrot or
wanted a pet. She just wanted to teach it to talk. The bird sensed this and
when it refused to obey her instructions, she started making faces and
spoke to it rudely. This made the parrot dislike Aunt Ruby.

3. What made Aunt Ruby turn ruby red?


Ans. When the parrot returned to Aunt Ruby’s house and saw her, he
shrieked and made fun of her by using the exact same words that Aunt
Ruby had taught him, “you are useless. Can’t talk, can’t sing, can’t
dance.”This made Aunt Ruby turn ruby red.
