Ans: The word ‘enquiring ‘ means ‘to ask’ and thus here it means ‘curious’. The narrator uses
the word to show that the owl looked out from the hole in the tree to find out who was tapping
on the tree trunk.

Ans: The owlets had fallen out of their nest.

4. What did the mother owl do that made the narrator think that she did not trust him to look

6. What do you know about the house where the narrator lived? Describe it based on the details given in the
story?
Ans: The narrator lived with his grandparents and Aunt Mabel. In his house few pets were the part of family.
His grandmother loved the pets very much and cared them. When two spotted owlets appeared in their
house, they also became the regular members of their household so attached to grandmother that began to
show affection towards anyone I a petticoat.
7. List six sounds of owl that the narrator has given in the text?
Ans: Hissed, crooned, whoo-whoo, purring, shrieks, gurgled.
8. How did the owlets show their affection for grandmother?
Ans: Once grandmother was having an afternoon nap, then one of the owlets had crawled up her pillow till its
head was settled into warm comfortable position under her ear.
9. How did the mother owl show that she cared for the little owlets?
Ans: When the narrator placed the owlets on the ledge just inside the mosquito netting, from outside the
mother owl crooned and gurgled for a long time. It seemed she was worried about her little owlets. She
remained the whole night there.
10. Did the narrator and his grandfather treat animals with respect? Give reasons for your answer.
Ans: Yes, the narrator and his grandfather treated animals with respect as when they got two spotted owlets
they fed them on a branch of a mango tree and looked after them.
