HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Swiggy was founded in 2014 by 3 co-founders,
two BITS Pilani graduates Sriharsha Majety,
Nandan Reddy and Rahul Jamini, an IIT
alumnus. Even after Sriharsha Majety and
Nandan Reddy were not able to make it big
with Bundl(a start up which aimed to connect
all the courier services in India), they decided
to enter the food delivery space, a relatively
faster growing market.

Swiggy always had a very strong business


model and over the due course of time they
leveraged it really well. Let's have a glimpse on
Swiggy's journey till now.
TIMELINE
2014: Swiggy was founded by its 3
co-founders Sriharsha Majety,
Nandan Reddy and Rahul Jamini

2015: Swiggy convinced many


restaurants to enter the online food
delivery channel. The USP was that
they invested in building a proper
logistics network with a vast fleet
of their own delivery boys. In this
year, Swiigy had 100+ restaurants
under its belt delivering around
70,000 on a monthly basis. Swiggy
received its initial investment of $ 2
million from Accel and SAIF
2016: Swiggy's network kept on
increasing with increasing
competition in the market. Still,
Swiggy managed to catch the eyes
of global investors including
Singapore based RB Investments
and New York based Harmony
Partners. In September, Bessemer
Venture also got associated with
the startup.
2017: The startup picked up a huge
pack with 6X growth in 3 years.
Swiggy comes up with the concept
of cloud kitchens and gets Nasper
onboard with a funding of $80
million
2018: This was the golden year for
Swiggy. It introduced Swiggy
Access and Swiggy Capital Assist,
claiming to have achieved 500%
increase in the revenue compared
to the previous financial year. After
receiving a $100 million from
Chinese investor Meituan-Dianping
and Naspers($210 million in total),
Swiggy registered itself as a $1.3
billion unicorn

2019 & beyond: Swiggy continues to


grow adding partners like grocery
chains and pharmacies in some
cities
