Workshop shadowing

Report number 1

Done by : Khaled Alhamawi

Abstract

This report summarizes the first two days of the workshop shadowing and
include some details about the works that observed by me which includes oil
changing, pollen filter change, tire filling and wheel nuts tightening, and doing
a compression test for the engine.
Oil change steps

1-Run the engine for about 5 minutes to allow the oil to become less viscous

2-Raise the car on 2 post lift

3-Drain the old engine oil.

4-Remove the oil filter and clean the filter compartment.

6. Place the new oil filter.

7. Add new engine oil.

8. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

9. Check and reset the engine oil level.

Pollen filter change steps

1- Remove the necessary panels to reach the old filter

2- It is necessary to set the air conditioning (A/C) system in recirculation mode

to allow access to the pollen filter, Press the recirculation button for three
seconds to set the climate control system into continuous recirculation mode.

3- Remove the old filter and make sure the new one matches before discarding
it

4- Insert the new cabin filter and replace any fittings you removed earlier
Engine compression test

The engine compression is the engine's combustion capacity necessary to make the
motor run. A compression drop inside one or more cylinders will cause abnormal
idling, power loss, higher fuel consumption, and polluting emissions. Most of the
time these problems are the result of wear and tear on some parts or other: piston
rings, valves, head gasket, or cracks anywhere.

For best results the engine should be operating at normal temperature, or until the
radiator fan starts. Disconnect the starter and the fuel supply to prevent any danger
of explosion, and remove all the sparkplugs. Keep the throttle valve open to the
max throughout the operation. Connect the pressure gauge to the sparkplug hole,
and then turn on the starter until the gauge pointer gets up to the maximum.

The following rule can be followed to know the engine condition :

a minimum of 100 psi per cylinder, and a maximum difference of 25% between
each cylinder. You should start to worry if one of the cylinders is getting close to
100 psi. Most new engines in good condition compress at around 175 psi.
