1. Ability to select an “industrial” application that depends primarily on a helical compression 2
spring to function properly (choice of the application and thus difficulty of the design
problem).
2. Understanding the different components of the application and their interaction with the 2
helical compression spring.
3. Accurate representation of the Free Body Diagram. 2
4. Understanding the nature of direct loads applied to the helical compression spring: High/low 2
cycle fatigue, uniform alternating loading, spectrum loading, etc.
7. Understanding the physical meaning and thus the limitation of each of the constants used in 3
the design equations.
8. Clarity of calculations and comments on the results. Here calculations should reflect point 4 4
above.
10. Using appropriate and sufficient references for the work and citing them properly within the 2
body of the report.
11. Listing of the references as per the University of Jordan Guides and Standards. 1
12. Style of report writing (language, organic flow of information, organization, etc.) 1
