operations, the management and the decision making
function in the organization

Management Information System
MIS is basically a software tool which gives a holistic report of
processed information based on which management can take certain
crucial decision on which strategy and tactics could be figured out.
MIS provides information that is needed to manage organizations
efficiently and effectively.
MIS is any organized approach for obtaining relevant and timely
information on which managerial decisions are based.
MIS facilitates the decision making process and enable the
organizational planning, control, and operational functions to be
carried out effectively.
Important role of MIS
in organization
1) The MIS satisfies the diverse needs through variety of systems such as
query system, analysis system, modeling system and decision support
system.
2) The MIS helps the junior management personnel by providing the
operational data for planning, scheduling and control , and helps them
further in decision-making at the operation level to correct an out of control
situation.
3) The MIS helps the middle management in short term planning, target
setting and controlling the business functions. It is supported by the use of
the management tools of planning and control.
4) The MIS helps the top level management in goal setting, strategic planning
and evolving the business plans and their implementation.

Coca-Cola’s superb information management, they are able to reliably
track information about their products and make adjustments to their
business strategy accordingly online accordingly. We see that
management information systems are perfectly suited to a task like
this as it allows Coca-Cola to gather bulk data on sales and details on
the nature of those sales. This insight into the market is a big reason
why it is possible for Coca-Cola to operate on such a large level with
independent businesses working together in this way.

The information gained through the use of management information
systems is utilized by Coca-Cola in several different levels of the business
structure which was mentioned in detail earlier. A simple and effective way
of summing up this process is laid out in the publication “Management
Information Systems, Controller’s Handbook” by the where it states “MIS
also enhances job performance throughout an institution. At the most
senior levels, it provides the data and information to help the board and
management make strategic decisions. At other levels, MIS provides the
means through which the institution's activities are monitored and
information is distributed to management, employees, and customers.
Conclusions

It can be concluded that management information system is an


important part of the business which provides timely and accurate
information to the business managers and helps them in taking
appropriate decisions. With the change of technology management,
new software are now used in information systems which lead to the
fast and timely supply of the information.

But information systems have to face the challenges like implementation
costs, employees’ resistance to change, server crash problems and
learning of new system problems and up-to-date information etc. For the
success of information system, it is suggested that proper planning is
very important in any information system because without planning
nothing possible. Project harmony is necessary and uniformity in the
organization is also required.
