published on Oct 2, 2018. A documentary from http://www.biermann-jung.com for the Visayas
Primary Health Care Services ( VPHCS) which is a community-based health program at the
Philippines. The film tells about the important work of the people of VPHCS, other organizations
and NGOs when it comes to improvement of health care for the poor. The last film Duterte
Legacy - Universal Health Care was published on Jan 21, 2020.The film tells about

In the first film they reveals how the system is not affordable for everyone that the citizens are
suffering because of it to the point where the institution are making excuses just to shoo you if
you don’t have to money to pay and the fortunate are given more opportunity to be treated just
because they have the money to pay. The second film shows that from a lack of access to a
lack of resources, the state of health care in the Philippines is pretty dire. As the government
tries to get its act together, poor patients who could not afford better care are left to wait in
pain.Third film portrays the VPHCS network with medical, nursing and dental schools, and local
health professionals. They work with other organizations and NGOs who work for the
improvement of healthcare for the poor. The last film explains that providing healthcare for all
has long been a priority of the Duterte administration. The passage of the Universal Health Care
Law ensures that every Filipino will receive affordable and quality health benefits. The UHC Law
also benefits healthcare professionals as it includes provision for scholarship grants for
graduate and undergraduate allied and health-related programs.

After watching the two videos my thoughts and realization about the Philippine Health Care
System is that we really do have a a very poor health delivery system to the point that my heart
ache for the people who are unfortunate and cannot afford to pay for their hospital bill and did
not have a chance to be treated and is left to suffer and then eventually die. I also agree with
what the old lady said that If you have the money the hospital will treat you and if you don’t then
the hospital will not treat you and will make some excuses just to shoo you. Having this kind of
Health Care System in my own country makes me sad because it's just like their lives seem to
revolve around money and they just let people who are unfortunate to suffer. One of the issues
and challenges that the Health Care Delivery System in the Philippine setting is confronting right
now is that instead of our health care delivery system getting better it is just getting worse.
Although the government is sending doctors to the barrios to bring health interventions
there. There are still some people who live in a remote location across town who do not have
access to healthcare and it is just one of the many challenges that are Health Care Delivery
System is confronting right now.Not to mention the pandemic that we are experiencing, I’m
scared for myself, my family and the people in this country for what our Health Care Delivery
System can offer us in the future.
The pivotal role of nurses in addressing these key issue and challenges are (1) providing
primary health care, whereas they train their people, provide medical services whenever the
community is needing it and giving an awareness raising for the medical health sector so that
when health students graduated they can be sympathetic enough to give their services free to
these deprive communities. (2) continuous monitoring and assessment of their patients and,
where possible, implementing procedures to resolve problems or mitigate risk; (3) coordinating
treatment received by other providers; and (4) preparing patients and family members for
discharge, which can minimize the risk of problems and readmission in the posthospital.
According to my research there is really no improvement when it comes to our healthcare
system it is just getting worst and that is not good because that’s just mean that more people
are gonna suffer and die considering on the pandemic that we are experiencing the fatalities are
gonna double no triple I must say because of the lack of care and action of the government. The
government should put their overall focus on improving our health care delivery system and not
on useless things because millions of people are depending on it.

The films were very informative and it definitely catch my interest because it shows the real
situation of our Health Care Delivery System in the Philippines. The films are definitely an eye-
opening on what is really happening in our country and I think that everyone must see these
films because I think it is their right and personal responsibility to know on what is happening
around them. As a citizen of this country my heart can't imagine what kind of suffering the
people who are deprived and oppressed are experiencing right now. Deprive of healthcare
because of poverty and just left to suffer.

The films woke me that to open our eyes to these realities isn’t a simple awakening of our
conscience, it is an act of personal responsibility. The films makes me realize that while I enjoy
the opportunity to be treated to a institution without worrying how to pay for the bills and still had
the audacity to complain how the service that I get is not enough and all makes me guilty as
ever because while I enjoy the perks I did not realize that there are people out there who are
deprived and oppressed. I challenge myself that I will do anything to help others who are
deprived and oppressed and give them my service free in the future.
