Oracle Services Tools Bundle Components

Oracle Services Tool Bundle includes:

Oracle Explorer Data Collector

Oracle Remote Diagnostic Agent (RDA)
Oracle Serial Number in EEPROM (SNEEP)
Oracle Autonomous Crashdump Tool (ACT)

Alerts

Customers running Explorer 19.1 on Solaris 10 with a Perl version lower than 5.8.9 may have found that the output
bundles were rejected by MOS. If you encounter this, please upgrade to Oracle Services Tools Bundle 19.2 or above.

Customers using DA as a transport mechanism to upload to MOS should use Explorer 19.4 in preference to Explorer 19.3.

Please note that running the network module (part of default) may cause a system panic in s11.3 SRU22 and SRU23 due
to unpublished Solaris Bug: 26535623. This is resolved in SRU24 but, if you encounter the issue before then, there are
IDRs available for both SRU22 and SRU23.

Oracle Services Tools Bundle Downloads

Please note that the following 5 downloads have identical content. You only need to download one as STB is generic and
suitable for installation on Oracle Solaris 8 or later (both SPARC & x86 platforms). The reason to have 5 platforms is to avoid
confusion when redirected to the download site.

Oracle Services Tools Bundle Installation

Once downloaded, you can install the Oracle Services Tool Bundle components by starting the installer install_stb.sh. Check
the Oracle Explorer Data Collector User Guide for more information on how to run the installer. The installer will transparently
install:

On Solaris 11 or later:

Explorer and RDA via an IPS package with pkg://solaris/support/explorer as leading part of the FMRI. The software
location is /usr/lib/explorer for Explorer and /usr/lib/rda for RDA.
SNEEP via an IPS package with pkg://solaris/support/sneep as leading part of the FMRI. The software location is
/usr/lib/sneep.
ACT via the IPS package with pkg://solaris/support/act as leading part of the FMRI. The software location is
/usr/lib/act.
Explorer is installed into: /usr/sbin/explorer

On Solaris 11.3 and later:

Explorer is now contained in Solaris SRU releases so can no longer be updated via an IPS package.
If you need to install an Explorer fix urgently without an SRU update please contact an Oracle Support Engineer
STB 19.4 is the most recent version to be included in a Solaris SRU; it is available in Solaris 11.4 SRU15
STB 19.1 is included in Solaris 11.3 LSU 36.8

On Solaris 8, 9, and 10:

Explorer and RDA via the packages SUNWexplo, SUNWexplu, and SUNWrda. The standard software locations are
/opt/SUNWexplo, /etc/opt/SUNWexplo, and /usr/lib/rda.
SNEEP via the package SUNWsneep. The standard software location is /opt/SUNWsneep
ACT is shipped via the CTEact package (Solaris 10 only).

LWACT is no longer shipped as part of STB. The information it provided can be obtained from Enterprise Manager Ops Center.

Upgrading Services Tools Bundle

If Services Tools Bundle is already present on the server where you are installing, the installer will detect this and upgrade it
silently.

Oracle Services Tools Bundle Components

Oracle Explorer Data Collector

A collection of shell scripts and a few binary executable that gathers information and creates a detailed snapshot of a
system's configuration and state.
Explorer output enables Oracle's engineers to perform assessments of the system by applying the output against
knowledge-based rules engine.
Information related to drivers, patches, recent system event history and log file entries is obtained from the Explorer
output.
Can be used by Oracle and Oracle's customers to identify and solve problems
To expedite problem diagnosis and resolution (reactive)
To prevent future problems (proactive)
Oracle Explorer Data Collector Implementation Best Practice (Doc ID 1006990.1)
This document describes all transport options.
While Explorer supports data transfer via FTP, this method is not recommended because it is not secure. You are
encouraged to use the http/https transport mechanism.
The use of mail transport is obsoleted since STB 6.10.
Sending Explorer Data Via Oracle Secure File Transport (Doc ID 1020199.1)
Oracle Explorer Data Collector: Modules, Module Groups, Module Aliases Summary (Doc ID 1536532.1)
From version 8.16 Explorer also includes the option to install the EZBundle feature on Solaris 11.3 or above. This allows
the automatic collection of an ILOM snapshot and Explorer bundle on detection of an FMA fault.

TIP: If you are sending an Explorer output to Oracle in connection with a Service Request it is essential to run Explorer
with the -SR option and enter the appropriate Service Request number. When the output arrives at Oracle, an association
between the SR and Explorer will be set and the file will be readily available for analysis.

Oracle Remote Diagnostic Agent

RDA is a command-line diagnostic platform that is executed by an engine written in the Perl programming language.
RDA provides a unified package of support diagnostics tools and preventive solutions.
The data captured provides a comprehensive picture of the customer's environment which aids in problem diagnosis.
RDA masks sensitive information like IP addresses, hosts, domain, user and group names.
A few characteristics of RDA:
All source files and outputs viewable by everyone. Customer changes could be possible. Those verifications are
essential for the product acceptance.
Single code approach for all platform families (MacOS, UNIX, VMS, and Windows).
Never alter the environment or data. No inserts, updates or deletes.
Easy to install and to remove, without requiring software configuration.
Does not require the installation of any Oracle product.
Regular release to quickly bring to market diagnostic enhancements.
Cover a larger spectrum of product versions, requiring minimal changes when a new version is released.
Please refer to the Getting Started Guide located here Getting Started Guide.

NOTE: The RDA installation also installs another diagnostic tool called Diagnostic Assistant (DA) in a da sub-directory
under rda. Diagnostic Assistant has been included in STB as a means to upload the Explorer output to Oracle. You can
find out more about DA in Document 201804.1, Diagnostic Assistant: General Information.

Oracle Serial Number in EEPROM (SNEEP)

Easy Serial Number and Asset Retrieval

Equipment Life Cycle Management
Changes logged to system log for audit compliance
Makes Serial Number required when opening Service Case readily available to system administrator
Communicated to Oracle via Explorer and Service Tags
Interconnects Oracle databases and Services
