QUESTION 1

a) Find the value for and given the following sample sizes:

i) n=9
ii) n = 18
iii) n = 29

b) A battery manufacturing company plans to test the hypothesis of variance


population greater than 0.49 year with alpha 0.01. A random sample of 15
batteries has a standard deviation of 0.5 years claims that the life of the batteries is
approximately normally distributed with a standard deviation of 0.7 year.
Is there enough evidence to support the company’s claim?

QUESTION 2
An experiment was performed to compare the abrasive wear of two different laminated
materials. Eleven pieces of material 1 were tested by exposing each piece to a machine
measuring wear. Nine pieces of material 2 were similarly tested. In each case, the depth of
wear was observed. The samples of material 1 gave an average (coded) wear of 85 units
with a sample standard deviation of 4, while the samples of material 2 gave an average of
81 and a sample standard deviation of 5. Use a 0.1 level of significance to test the ratio of
two populations.

Satu eksperimen dilakukan untuk membandingkan haus kasar dari dua bahan berlapis.
Sebelas kepingan bahan 1 diuji dengan mendedahkan setiap kepingan pada mesin yang
mengukur kehausan. Sembilan kepingan bahan 2 diuji sama. Dalam setiap kes, kedalaman
pemakaian diperhatikan. Sampel bahan 1 memberikan purata (berkod) kehausan 85 unit
dengan sisihan piawai sampel 4, sementara sampel bahan 2 memberikan purata 81 dan

QUESTION 3
A professor aims to explore and determine the importance of spending more time in
understanding the data behaviour and running the exploratory data analysis. She claims
that the longer the time (in hours per day) student’s spent on both aspects will produce
more excellent output in terms of writings and results (in average pages). A random
sample of 11 students were chosen and their output produced items were recorded as in
Table 1. Select an appropriate analysis and draw conclusions from the results of the
analysis.

Seorang profesor bertujuan untuk menentukan kepentingan menumpukan lebih banyak


masa dalam memahami tingkah laku data dan menjalankan analysis data penerokaan. Dia
membuat tuntutan bahawa semakin lama masa (dalam jam sehari) pelajar menumpukan
masa kepada kedua-dua aspek akan menghasilkan keluaran yang lebih cemerlang dari segi
penulisan dan hasilnya (dalam purata mukasurat). Sampel rawak 11 pelajar dipilih dan item
hasil keluaran mereka direkodkan seperti dalam Jadual 1. Pilih analisis yang sesuai dan buat

based on his or her score in the mid-term examination. Interpret the result. Then, predict
