PROGRAMS IN NEWS THIS WEEK
 SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a programme
initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of
Education Policy - access, equity and quality.

 SWAYAM platform is developed by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) along


with NPTEL, IIT Madras with the help of Google Inc. and Persistent Systems Ltd.

 It was launched in 2017. Courses that are taught in classrooms from 9th class till
postgraduation.

 The SWAYAM PRABHA is a group of 32 DTH channels devoted to telecasting of high-quality


educational programmes on 24X7 basis using the GSAT-15 satellite.

 The contents are provided by NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU, NCERT and NIOS. The INFLIBNET
Centre maintains the web portal.

PROGRAMS LAUNCHED THIS WEEK
 The VidyaDaan 2.0 is a program by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, launched to meet
the increasing demand for e-learning content in light of the lockdown
 It is a common national program for contribution of e-learning content for school and higher education
levels.
 The VidyaDaan 2.0 has a content contribution tool through which e-learning content like presentations,
explanatory videos, quizzes, competency based items etc can be contributed.
 The content will be monitored by a panel of academic experts and released for use on the DIKSHA app to
help millions of children across the country continue learning anytime and anywhere
 Diksha App : The content collected through VidyaDaan 2.0 will be made available to the students via the
Diksha app. It has been functioning since 2017

 EPS is a social security scheme that was launched in 1995 and is facilitated by EPFO.
 The scheme makes provisions for pensions for the employees in the organized sector after retirement at the
age of 58 years.
 Employees who are members of EPFO automatically become eligible for EPS.
 Both employer and employee contribute 12% of employee’s monthly salary (basic wages plus dearness
allowance) to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) scheme.
 EPF scheme is mandatory for employees who draw a basic wage of Rs. 15,000 per month.

 MPLADS funds suspended over COVID-19 crisis
 The Union Cabinet gave its nod to the temporary suspension of MPLAD Funds during 2020-21 and 2021-22 in
view of the adverse impact of the outbreak of COVID-19 in India.

 The Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) is an ongoing Central Sector Scheme
which was launched in 1993-94.

 The Scheme enables the Members of Parliament to recommend works for creation of durable community
assets based on locally felt needs to be taken up in their constituencies in the area of national priorities
namely drinking water, education, public health, sanitation, roads etc.

 The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has been responsible for the policy formulation,
release of funds and prescribing monitoring mechanism for implementation of the Scheme.

 The MPLADS is a Plan Scheme fully funded by Government of India. The annual MPLADS fund entitlement
per MP constituency is Rs. 5 crore.

 The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has announced a new scheme "One MP – One
Idea" under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS)

(CWMI) report released by the NITI Aayog in 2018, 21 major
cities (Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and others)
are racing to reach zero groundwater levels by 2020,

This Mission, under the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, will focus on integrated demand and
supply side management of water at the local level, including creation of local infrastructure for source
sustainability like rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and management of household wastewater for
reuse in agriculture.

Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) envisages supply of 55 liters of water per person per day to every rural household

The National Agriculture Market (NAM) is a pan-India electronic trading portal, which links the existing
Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) mandis across the country to form a unified national market for
agricultural commodities.

A nation-wide e-market portal for transparent sale and transactions and price discovery in the regulated
markets.

It will result in increased numbers of traders and greater competition. It will also ensure open price discovery and
better returns to farmers.

Farmers can showcase their produce online from their nearest market and traders can quote price from
anywhere.

The States can promote the e-trading as per their APMC Act and enact suitable provision under the act by their
State Agricultural Marketing Board/APMC.

During the launch, 21 mandis from eight states were connected to this unified portal. The States include Gujarat,
Rajasthan, Jharkahnd, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

What is APMC?
Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) is a system operating under the State Government since
agricultural marketing is a State subject that has Yards/Mandis in the market area that regulates the notified
agricultural produce and livestock.
Introduction of APMC was to limit the occurrence of Distress Sale by the farmers under the pressure and
exploitation of creditors and other intermediaries.

What are APMC and eNAM?
