National Flag

1. The Indian National Flag is also called the Tricolour flag.


2. The National Flag of India was designed by Pingali Venkayya, an Indian freedom
fighter from Andhra Pradesh.
3. The National flag of India is a horizontal tricolour with deep saffron (Kesari) at the
top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom and Asoka Chakra with 24
spokes in its centre.

4. The saffron represents courage and sacrifice, white represents truth, peace, and purity,
the green colour represents prosperity and navy blue coloured Asoka Chakra
represents the Laws of Dharma.
5. Ashok Chakra has been inspired by Lion Capital of Ashok.
6. The flag was first officially adopted on July 22, 1947.
7. According to the law, the National Flag of India is to be made by ‘Khadi’.
8. For all of us, our national flag is of great importance.
9. The national flag is hoisted on national occasions like Republic Day, Independence
Day etc.
10. We must always treat our national flag with respect and dignity.
