The uses of Oil

Almost every country in the world today needs oil. Some countries like Indonesia are
lucky, They produce oil. Many other countries do not produce oil. They must buy it from other
countries.

Why we need oil? It is easy to find the answer. Look around your house. In the kitchen
there may be plastic tiles on the floor, plastic bowls in the cupboard, plastic curtains on the window.

Do you eat from plastic plate or drink from plastic cups or bottles? The shirt or dress you are
wearing may be nylon. All these come from many kinds of oil.

Walk out into your garden , sometimes insects eat the leaves on the trees. They
eat the fruit and the vegetables in the gardens or eat rice in the field. When we want to
kill insects we use insecticides. And insecticides are made from oil. The car , buses, and
trucks which pass your house use a lot of petrol in their engines. Petrol is made from oil.

Oil has many uses. But the world doesn’t have much oil left. Scientist say the
world has oil for only fifty more years. And that is why scientists are trying to find
other fuels to use in cars and airplanes.
