V. A. INTRODUCTION
 We are living in a crazy world right now where it seems like all people talk about is
germs. Have you ever wondered what germs really are? Today we will be talking and
learning all about them and the best ways to get rid of them. The title of our
Scholastic News edition this week is called, “Cover That Sneeze, Please!”. Before we
read, who thinks they know why we have to cover our sneezes?

B. LESSON DEVELOPMENT (ACTIVITIES, PROCEDURES)

 Have students take out their Scholastic News from the Social Living pocket in their
binders
 Read Scholastic News “Cover That Sneeze, Please!”
 Have students take turns reading each paragraph and discuss after each reading
 Complete the back of Scholastic News “Soap or Hand Sanitizer?” work page
 Screen share and go onto the Scholastic News website- watch the No More Germs
video https://sn2.scholastic.com/issues/2020-21/090420.html
 Go over the vocabulary slideshow and identify the words “germs” and “pediatrician”
 Complete the “Spread Facts, Not Germs” worksheet under the document camera-
call on students to answer the questions
 Now that we have learned all about germs, I have something fun for us. We are
going to go into my virtual classroom to learn more about germs. In my classroom, I
have a video about germs, a science experiment, a game where you can zap the
germs, and some books you can read called, “Sick Simon” and “Germs, Germs,
Germs”. We will do a few of these things but I will link my virtual classroom on
Schoology for you so that you can come back in and explore.
 Let’s watch the science experiment done by Ryan’s World. Let’s find out why is it
important to always use soap on our hands.

C. EVIDENCE OF DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION (CONTENT, PROCESS, PRODUCTS, OR LEARNING

ENVIRONMENT)
Process: Students will learn about germs through reading, through watching videos,
discussing them, and doing activity worksheets.

D. CLOSURE (SUMMARY)
Someone tell me what germs are. What is the best way to get rid of them? Why is this
important? Germs are everywhere and we need to get rid of them in order to stay
healthy. Remember to cover your sneeze because it can spread germs and to sneeze
into your arm so that you don’t get germs on your hands. If you do, always try to wash
them. If you can’t, hand sanitizer is your next best option.

VI. ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
I will assess students through discussion and answer of questions at the end. I will evaluate
knowledge as they answer the questions on the “Spread Facts, Not Germs” worksheet.

VII. MODIFICATIONS AND/OR ACCOMMODATIONS

Allow more time for Mason to answer questions.

VIII. SELF-EVALUATION
