Yellow Card 2 for Visual Rhetorical Analysis Introductory Paragraph

Card Two: Present relevant information about sexism in the media and
advertisements during the time period the primary source
was created (three to five sentences) (1-2 sources)
Background
Information
In Fall of 2019 the article “Girls Are Bad at Math and Other Lies That Limit Women
and Girls” came out. The article focuses on sexism in school and how subtle
sexism is heavily disregarded in todays society. The author (Devon Leslie, pg.8)
goes on to say that “Discriminatory school dress codes unfairly target girls,
sexualizing and policing their bodies. They are not flagged as problematic or
demeaning of girls’ dignity and self-image.” Which goes to show that schools are
teaching students that social sexism is acceptable whether they realize it or not.
