Google Docs Collaborative Project

Introduction

In this project, the Information Processing students of Hillmond Central School, Paradise Hill
School, and St. Walburg School are going to write a book. This document is going to be entitled
100 Years of Technology.

1. First of all, students in HCS’s Information Processing will be paired up in grade-alike pairs.
Each pair will be assigned a year from the last 100 years.

2. Collaboratively, each pair will research and identify a piece of technology that they are going
to focus on. It is very likely that your year will have several technological developments or
inventions. You must identify these, and then as a pair select ONLY one to research.

3. Once you begin researching, I would like you to keep a record of websites that you found
particularly helpful. We are going to create a group document that you will paste the links of
helpful websites to. This is a part of the collaboration. Yes, you are collaborating with your
partner, but also with your class and the project team (the three schools).

The Research

There are 3 main questions that I would like you to be able to answer in the course of your
research:

 A biography of the inventor or group that invented or developed your piece of

technology.
-Where were they from?
-What was their job?
-Their education
-Why they sought to develop the technology

 Why was the technology developed in the first place?

-Remember that technology is often developed in order to deal with a problem and or
make a specific task easier.
-A part of this research is to also identify any previous developments that gave rise to
the technology you are researching.

 How has the technology evolved? (What has it turned into today?)
-A part of this research is to also identify any new technologies that came out of the
technology are researching.
The Products

Once you have finished gathering enough research to thoroughly answer the above research
questions, you are going to produce two things:

a) 1 Pg. Document
You and your partner are going to use Google Docs to write a one-page document that is
single spaced with 12-point font. This document will be written in essay form and will
explain your research with regard to the piece of technology that you selected from your
year. Due to the fact that it is going to be published, your writing mechanics must be
perfect – it is not optional. Therefore, peer review and revisions are required. This
document will be shared with me, and I in turn will share it with Mr. Stewart from
Paradise Hill. He will be taking all of the entries from Hillmond, Paradise Hill, and St.
Walburg and compiling them into one book, entitled 100 Years of Technology.

b) Presentation
You and your partner will make a presentation using Google Docs and deliver it to your
Information Processing class. I will not be the only one marking your presentation. The
rest of your class will mark it as well. They will be given the rubric to mark your
presentation. The rubric will be given to you too as you begin to prepare the
presentation. Your Power Point must have the following:

 An attractive title page with the names of both partners.

 A minimum of 12 slides.
 An appropriate balance of text and graphics.
 The use of duplicate slides.
 The use of one relevant video clip.
 The information will be discussed with your class, not read to them. After
completing your research, there should be no reason for not having a
conversational knowledge of your technology.

DUE DATE:__________________________________________

Please note: I will be giving you a rubric for your 1 pg. document. When you are ready to
write it, please come see me. YOU MUST READ THE RUBRIC BEFORE BEGINNING THE
DOCUMENT.
Web Sites To Get You Started

The following websites are given to you in order to just get your started. A part of this project
is or you to track down your own resources, and then share them with the rest of the class and
the project team (the three schools).
