Q: Why is the UN withdrawed from the Kyoto Protocol?

Reason:

The question can be considered a good one because it seeks to answers the following ideas: a.
the reason/s of United Nations for withdrawal; b. the declination of US in Kyoto protocol is
intriguing (since we all know that the program tries to combat the problem in global warming)
alongside their reasons; and c. the sub purposes or goal of the said program. The question will
deepen and expound the ideas behind the issues to further understand the story and not to focus
on what ideas are only given. It is constructed in a simple manner yet precise to get the exact
answer. Furthermore, the question can be answered by those who are interested in the issue (e.g.
students) and fellow experts, through the articles, opinions, interpretations and experience on that
time. Also, this question tries to comprise all people because it involves global issue and every given
idea may help disclose and justify the question. The question may not require immediate answer
since the issue is a way deep than what people could see and read on articles, etc. but it is believe
that there are more within this wherein the lawmakers and/or leaders, business partners and
scientists are involved.

The question hopes for filling the curiosity in minds of people utterly without biased
information. Fair and equal discernment will be very much appreciated, although ‘opinions’ may
help to repudiate it. But then, there is nothing more within but to see the awareness of all people in
the global issue/s aforementioned.

Answer:

As we all know, Kyoto protocol is treaty that made a big contribution to help others countries
like China, and the solving the global warming such as the reduction of greenhouse gases emission,
however, this treaty seems to have more business other than that. According to the article of Ulrich
Brand (2015), Kyoto Protocol is dealing with developing or industrialized countries for they believe that
they are the ones who produced more gasses. Due to that, they had their agreement to solve the
problem in a way that they will supply their coals in a certain limit as a trade; it is prefer due to its low
price.

If you will analyze, it is contradict to their main objective to reduce the gasses, because coals are
considered not eco friendly and more harmful to environment. The Kyoto Protocol has been more
focused on their business in partnership with UN (has the largest coal emission business), however, UN
put their withdrawal because of the lacking of purpose in their main goal. Also, US, Afghanistan and
Canada did not sign the protocol for they believe that it is not effective for all of the countries. Rich and
poor countries must be involved since it is a global issue. They also believed that is more of political
negotiation within, and is not related to science and technology anymore. In addition, there are US
environmentalists that have criticized the Kyoto Protocol due to their ineffectiveness. They are more
after with the rich countries for the purpose of business. They have not even provided required actions
or at least long term timetable for emission reduction. Their lack of long term goal, coupled with
problems over incentives to comply with emission reduction commitments, prevented the protocol from
providing a credible signal for governments and business to make a long term goal (Stern, A. n.d.).

Therefore, we can say that Kyoto Protocol have been carried by their business interests than
their goal of solving the problem. But because of the initiatives of other countries and their people, the
global warming as the main goal and is still prioritized until nowadays. It is because again, there are
effective lawmakers and leaders that is working with scientist through Science and Technology.
