Human rights-power-globalization
Objective: at the end of the exercise, students will be able to define the topic, make a comparison
between basic and general HRs, to critically view their own reality in connection to HRs and
recognize the current situation in Colombia from different social stances.
Directions: please read the recommended pages below (and other sources) and prepare the
suggested activities. It is recommended to internalize and appropriate vocabulary and common
expressions in English language for further practice. Any doubt, do not hesitate to contact me:

1 Summarizing issues on HRs. Consider history, November 6


evolution, application, convenience, etc. (10%)
Making a comparative table on HRs in both
2 Colombia and Brazil. Consider violation and November 18
observance of fundamental human rights such as (15%)
life, education, health, job, food, housing, and
ethnicity.
Designing a comparative table on power,
domination, hegemony, according the authors
3 suggested (Weber, Gramsci, Chomksky, Galeano, November 27
Foucault, Van Dijk, etc. and others you want to (15%)
refer to). What’s your own appropriation?

4 Poster design: decide on a topic representing a November-December 11
power manifestation. Explain your creation. (10%)

Performance activities
Video making: Social leaders at danger in
Colombia. (Political, economic, cultural, social
views). December 14
1 Playing the role of a reporter: interviews, paper (15%)
and digital reports, social net workings chats,
local and international overviews, etc.
You should appear on the play and the video
should last 2-3 minutes.
Making slides (a PPT: power point templates) to
inform on the impact of ethnic discrimination at
UPTC.
December 16
2 The PPT will be the result of a survey applied (15%)
which seeks observance or violation of this
specific HR at the university. Design at least 6
slides which report on objectives, statistics,
findings and conclusion. (oral report)
Final essay - globalization and education at the
UPTC December 18
3 (Three pages long at minimum and 8 references, (10%)
Follow APA guidelines 6th edition and basic essay
parameters.)
4 Oral assessment (task’s date submission, To be agreed
commitment, participation, responsibility, etc.) (10%)
