1. a) Why cascading is necessary? While cascading which configuration 2+4+2


of BJT amplifier is used in intermediate stages and why? Explain.
What is the effect of cascading on total bandwidth?
b) Find the ac output voltage for the CE amplifier circuit shown below. 7

2. a) What is distortion? Explain different types of distortions with their 2+5


effect on audio signal.
b) What is frequency response? Describe the high frequency response of 2+6
RC coupled BJT transistor amplifier.
3. a) How does crossover distortion occur in class B push-pull amplifier? 2+3
How do you eliminate it?
b) In a push pull amplifier of class B operation V cc = 20V, RL = 10  . 5
The total number of turns on the primary windings is 100 and the
secondary winding has 50 turns. Assuming that the transformer has
zero resistance, find,
 maximum power that can be delivered to the load.
 power dissipated in each transistor when maximum power
is delivered to the load.
c) Write the main advantages and disadvantages of negative feedback. 5

4. a) Describe how input and output impedance vary in a voltage shunt 7


feedback system.
b) When negative voltage feedback applied to an amplifier of gain 100, 4+4
the overall voltage gain falls to 60.
i. Calculate the fraction of the output voltage feedback.
ii. If this fraction is maintained, calculate the value of the
amplifier gain required if the overall stage gain is to be 75.
5. a) Explain the circuit action of Wein Bridge oscillator with neat sketch 8
and give its advantages and disadvanges.

What is an oscillator? What is its need? Give its advantages.
b) The ac equivalent circuit of a crystal has three values: L = 1.5 H, C = 7
0.02 pF, R = 1 K  and Cm = 20 pF. Calculate the series resonant
and parallel resonant frequencies of the crystal.
6. a) In the voltage regulator circuit shown below, V z = 7.5 V, VBE = 0.7V 8
and  dc = 100. What is
i. the load voltage
ii. base current
iii. zener current
iv. power dissipiation in transistor

b) Describe the operation of centre-tap full wave rectifier with neat 3+4
diagram and wave forms.
