Post-Secondary Interest

The school of my choice is the Health and Style Institute. It is in Kennesaw and is about a

30-minute drive. They are known for offering training that provide skills employer in salons,

spas, and industries that demand cosmetologist. The Health and style institute is a great fit for me

because of the programs they offer at this cosmetology school. They offer the all-around

cosmetology program that I have completed. Skin care therapy to become an esthetician who

specializes in skin care. Make up artistry for learning how to apply make up for different events

or in different environments. Lastly, they offer a salon and spa leadership program and a teacher

training program. I have obtained my 1,500 hours to go to state board to test for my master

cosmetologist licenses after I graduate. I am interested in taking the teacher training program.

This program is for students with all the fundamentals needed to providing Cosmetology

instruction in a licensed Cosmetology school. There are pros and cons to attending the Health

and Style Beauty Institute. The location is great, and they offer the program I want to take. The

price compared to other cosmetology schools is very good and offers me to study what I’m

passionate about. I don’t really have many cons, but one would be it’s not my dream school and

that it’s one of the very few cosmetology schools that offer a teacher training program and

continuing education in one program. Health and Style Institute also gives students the

opportunity to work in a real-world salon and spa setting where you provide services to clients

under the supervision of a licensed instructor. This allows you to begin building your clientele,

while you are still in school. The requirements include you must have a high school diploma or

GED. You must have a cosmetology licenses before being able to attend the teacher training

program. You are required to buy textbooks and certain educational materials from the school.

Students are also responsible for state board testing fees. The program environment includes the

curriculum of 150 hours on methods of teaching and laws governing cosmetology. Then 650

hours of practice teaching that is done in under direct supervision of a licensed cosmetic teacher.

There are also fees and expenses required for attending. Tuition and fees are $20,145. Books and

supplies are $1,850. Room and board are about $13,090. Then possibly other living expenses

$6,710. The total cost of attendance when a student lives off campus is $41,795. Then there’s

your basic monthly living expenses which include housing that is about %1,574 and utilities of

about $400. You also have your food and groceries that is about $600, transportation is about

$814, and apparel is can be about $136. Lastly healthcare cost ranges it could be $180 all the

way up to a $1,000.

I plan to go to state board after I graduate to take my state board test to become a licensed

master cosmetologist and then start a job at a spa and salon since it offers more than just hair

services. The Nubiance salon and spa in Atlanta interests me a lot. The salon and spa has been

running for over 18 years. Nubiance has passed the test of time to become a state-of-the-art

multicultural salon that promotes health and beauty as people’s right to claim (NubianceSalon).

They were granted the color award and was voted to be the best of Atlanta from the Atlanta

tribune multiple times. The offer hair care services to work with all hair types and textures. They

offer a variety of color services, custom highlights and color corrections. They also preform hair

cutting services, smoothing treatments and more. The also do wedding packages upon request.

The also do Spa and esthetician services and specialize in facials, peels, microdermabrasion, lash

extensions, waxing and threading. The also do massages and custom make up and for weddings.

They also work with high end products to give you the best results in all they do. I love the

variety they offer that’s why I’m so interested in their company and would love to work there.

There is another cosmetology school that interests me and it’s the empire beauty school.

This school interested me because it is one of the few than offer the instructors program. The

downside to it is the location in Kennesaw and that the program just is a teacher training program

and does not offer the continuing education in the program as well. The instructors program

gives you the opportunity and skills to become a cosmetology educator who can improve peoples

while loving what you do. An empire beauty school instructor works with students while they

practice hands on skills. I was also interested in this school but I’m more interested and fit better

for the Health and Style Institute.

Those are the three I have been looking at and have been interested in but I’m choosing

the Health and Style Institute because it offers two programs in one, I want to take. I found a lot

of interest in the Nubiance spa and salon to work at right after I have obtained my cosmetology

licenses. I plan to work there and go to school to pay for school as well learn more techniques

and skills from working in a spa and salon. This will help me for my future goal of become a

cosmetology instructor or opening my very own business. These all offer great opportunities to

help me grow and accomplish my goals.
