ASSIGNMENT: INDIVIDUAL ESSAY

Anthropogenic global climate change is an on-going phenomenon that is having a profound effect
on weather, landscapes, ecosystems, and people all over the world. Climate change can be
considered both a slow-onset danger and an immediate danger.

Please structure your essay around the following 3 sections:

1. Define what global climate change is, briefly note associated impacts, and discuss
how it can be considered as both a slow-onset danger and an immediate danger.
2. Discuss two ways in which we might adapt to some inevitable impacts of climate
change, using some specific examples from Canada or anywhere in the world.
3. Discuss two ways in which we might mitigate (that is slow down) climate change,
providing some specific examples of strategies or projects from Canada or
anywhere in the world.

ESSAY REQUIREMENTS

Your essay is an INDIVIDUAL piece of work. Your essay must be 1200 words in total, not
including graphs, charts, tables, or your bibliography. Please do not exceeded 1200 words.

Please use 12-pt font, Times New Roman, and make it double-spaced.

You are required to use at least 3 peer-reviewed articles and/or books. You must refer to your
articles and/or books in your paper, with proper in-text referencing – for example: (Garrison,
2000).

In addition to the 3 peer-reviewed articles and/or books, you are encouraged to include supporting
information and/or numerical data from newspapers, government reports, official websites,
Statistics Canada, government websites, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) websites,
photos, class lectures, etc. Make sure that every source is referenced in your bibliography.

Every figure, table, graph or photo that you include must have a proper title above it, and a
reference below it. If it is taken from the web, please post the URL below it (in small font).
 COMPONENTS OF YOUR ESSAY

TITLE PAGE
You must have a title page which includes a descriptive title, your name, student number, course
number (GEO 210), course section (021), my name (Professor Raymond Garrison) and due date
(Wednesday, March 25, 2020).

INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH
State what your essay is about, what your main argument will be, and how you will discuss it in
your essay (i.e., list the sub-sections here).

BODY OF THE ESSAY

Please use sub-sections in your essay (and please list them in your introductory paragraph).
Make a logical, sequential argument throughout your essay.

CONCLUSION
Include a conclusion, which is one or two paragraphs in length. The conclusion summarizes your
main argument, and states some future directions for investigations.

BIBLIOGRAPHY
You may use any bibliographic style (e.g., APA Style), as long as you are consistent.
Separate your bibliography into 2 sections: peer-reviewed “Academic Literature”, and
“Additional Sources”.

SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

Spelling and grammar are important. Poor expression and grammar take away from the argument
you are trying to make. Please proof-read your paper before submitting it.
