Mi-17/171
Checklist THROUGH-FLIGHT OPERATION. The through-flight checklist
may be used for subsequent starts, run-ups, takeoffs, landings,
and shutdowns when no maintenance action is required, and
the crew remains unchanged.

BEFORE TAKEOFF AND LANDING. Before takeoff and before

landing checks may be made by memory when time or safety
makes use of the published checklist impractical.

SYMBOLS
Symbols preceding numbered steps:

* ⎯ Indicates performance of the step is mandatory for all

through-flights.

N ⎯ Indicates performance of the step is mandatory for night

operation.

O ⎯ Indicates “if installed.”

 ⎯ Indicates “detailed procedure.”

7 July 2010 Immediate action emergency steps are indicated in bold.

NORMAL PROCEDURES GENERAL INFORMATION
TABLE OF CONTENTS PAGE APPLICABILITY. This checklist shall be utilized when operating
the Mi-17.
BEFORE EXTERIOR INSPECTION N-5
EXTERIOR CHECK (BOTTOM) N-5
PREFLIGHT INSPECTION. Complete the preflight inspection by
INTERIOR CHECK N-6
inspecting all readily accessible panels, components,
EXTERIOR CHECK (TOP) N-7
COCKPIT POWER ON CHECKS N-9 compartments, and fluid levels. The PIC is responsible for
BEFORE STARTING ENGINES N-10 ensuring a complete and thorough preflight inspection is
STARTING APU N-13 conducted prior to each flight.
STARTING ENGINES N-14
ENGINE RUNUP N-16 NORMAL PROCEDURES PAGES. The pages of the
BEFORE TAXI N-18 normal operating procedures of this manual are identified
HOVER CHECK N-18 by the use of the letter N preceding the page number.
BEFORE TAKEOFF N-18
AFTER TAKEOFF N-19 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES PAGES. The pages of the
BEFORE LANDING N-19 emergency procedures are identified by the use of the letter E
AFTER LANDING N-19 preceding the page number.
ENGINE SHUTDOWN N-20
POST FLIGHT INSPECTION N-21 MISCELLANEOUS DATA PAGES. The pages of the
ANTI-ICE EQUIPMENT CHECK N-22 miscellaneous data pages are identified by use of the letter M
ENGINE ELECTRONIC REGULATOR N-25 preceding the page number. This includes conversion data,
PITCH LIMITER (SPUU-52) N-25 aircraft limits, crew briefing format, and tabular data.
AUTOPILOT CHECK N-26
HOIST FUNCTION CHECK N-27 CHALLENGE/RESPONSE FORMAT. Procedures are written in a
HOIST OPERATOR’S BEFORE PICKUP N-27 challenge response format where normally the copilot reads
HOIST OPERATOR’S AFTER PICKUP N-27 the first portion, and the crewmember executing the checklist
CARGO HOOK N-28
replies with the bold response after completion of the check.
REFUELING CHECKLIST N-28
Additional information is provided in parentheses. “As
STARTING HEATER N-29
ENGINE COLD CRANK N-30
required” is not an appropriate response, therefore the actual
GYRO COMPASS ALIGNMENT N-30
selected position should be called out.
FLIR PREMISSION CONFIG N-31
FLIR NUC N-31 CHECKLIST HEADING CREW DESIGNATIONS. Crew positions
PASSENGER BRIEFING N-32 listed at the top of each section are designated to perform

FUEL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS A slow, uncommanded change in established flight regime:

1. Observe autopilot axis trim indicators to identify failed
channel.
CAUTION 2. Disengage failed channel.

If all the tank pumps are not functioning, approximately

23 minutes of fuel remains. If yaw channel failed:
1. Place feet on pedals
2. Disengage yaw channel
