AquaSci 1 – Activity 1-7-1

Starting from basic needs to more specific ones, aquatic ecosystems haves provided me a lot
of goods and services since I was young. In addition, living in a coastal community and near a large
body of water, specifically the Iloilo strait, have its own perks too. The services and benefits that these
aquatic ecosystems have great importance to me while growing up and up until now.

Due to aquatic ecosystems, I am able to enjoy basic human needs such as drinking water, fish,
and other seafood that are both captured in the wild and in inland fish farms. Living near a strait, it
provides us a shore that serves as a recreational space for anyone who would like to play different
kinds of games. In late afternoons, I personally enjoys looking at the sun as it sets in the horizon, while
the children are playing and chasing around. It brings a different kind of peace and relaxation to the
soul, and sometimes, it makes me feel nostalgia because I would also remember my childhood where
I used to play with my friends in the beach during afternoon. Aquatic ecosystems have also inspired
me in creating literary pieces with themes and subjects that are related or found in these
environments. In addition, my family receives monetary benefit from it because my father is a fish
vendor and his source of income heavily relies to the production of fishes from the aquatic ecosystems
around us.
