Q1. What is modulation? Also define it types in your own words.

Ans. In the field of telecommunications when information is sent from one place to another, it is sent in
the form of waves and the waves are not single one is the wave carrying the information (Message
signal/Modulating Signal). In the process of sending these signals to the receiver end it needs to be
merged (modulated) as a single waves hence the process of varying the properties of periodic waves is
basically known as modulation or we can say that (Not exactly) but the process of merging the carrier
wave with the message signal is known as modulation.

Types of modulati on:

Following are the basic types of modulation.

1) Phase Modulation: a type of modulation where the phase of the carrier signal is varied
accordance to the low frequency of the message signal is known as phase modulation.
2) Frequency modulation: a type of modulation where the frequency of the carrier signal is
modulated (changed) in proportion to the message signal while the amplitude and phase are
kept constant.
3) Amplitude modulation: A type of modulation where the amplitude of the carrier signal is
modulated (changed) in proportion to the message signal while the frequency and phase are
kept constant.
