BARANGAY CABALANGEGAN
Brief History of the Barangay
The name Cabalangegan as some people claimed was not
derived from the name of a plant called BALANGEG in the
dialect, which grows abundantly in fresh water ponds, or lakes.
Hence, it was derived from the underground root crops called
CAMANGEG. How is the name of the village originated? It
came about this way: during the Spanish regime, when the
Spaniards had already established normally in the Ilocos, the
inhabitants of the village now called CABALANGEGAN,
where industrious, peace loving, and courageous people lived.
They would be distinguished from the people of the other
villages because of the very special weapon they possessed
which is called PALSUOT in the dialect. The PALSUOT has a
barrel of about one half inch diameter. It is equipped with a
bamboo rod which is inserted in the bore and it is used to push
the bullet made out of CAMANGEG. A little pressure is exerted
in pushing the camangeg bullet through the bore.
CAMANGEG grew abundantly in our place during the
Spanish time and people in our place in surrounding villages
were unanimous in calling it, CAMANGEG pertaining to the
now called CABALANGEGAN.
