Workshop Content

The Egyptian Amduat workshop is composed of a many layered series of journeys,

sacred constellations, and ceremonies that are based upon a portion of the texts from
Pharaonic Egypt familiarly known as the Book of the Dead. Amduat is translated as the “Book
of Going Forth by Day. It chronicles the journey of the Sungod Ra which he undertakes nightly
after spending himself on behalf of the world that he is shining upon. Ra needs to resurrect and
become his fully potentised self and begin anew to shine at his fullest.
The journey he embarks on takes him into the underworld over a period of 12 hours,
through a series of gates and into fields and archetypal situations that hold challenges,
resources, remembering and ancestral blessings. This journey after death, originally open only
to the pharaoh, became a powerful and familiar journey into the afterlife for all.
Exploring the Amduat, we learn the landscape of the journey, we learn who our allies are
along with Ra, we decide what we take with us and what we leave behind. On Saturday
evening, we enter the lower world to go through the 12 gates together with Ra, the 12 Hathors,
Isis, Nephthys and others. On this journey we let of what needs to be released, we embrace
what is true, we are remembered and empowered by our Spirit allies and we take our places
with the gods with the intention of resurrection and renewal so that our lives may be enriched.
Note:
I began teaching the Amduat 3 day exploration some years ago as the conclusion for my 2 year
- 4 part shamanic workshop known as the Wheel of Life. The four parts of this wheel were Birth,
Life, Death and Resurrection. The efficacy of this journey to aid positive change, to face
lingering shadow material while empowered by sacred beings and sacred space and to help
shift into new and deeper awareness of ourselves in profoundly positive ways revealed it’s
importance not just for the afterlife but for our wellbeing in this life.
