PROPOSAL

Advert Title: ‘Lonely This Christmas’

The title of our advert was chosen for two specific reasons. Principally, Lonely This
Christmas’ main theme is that of spending Christmas, a celebratory and familial time
all alone. I believe that this title fits perfectly – the oxymoron of being lonely at a
time where people come together creates the effect of emotional provocation and
empathy.
Secondly (and I will talk about this in detail later), the main piece of music we will be
using is titled the same - Lonely This Christmas (Acoustic) by John Adams.

Synopsis:
The course of the advert follows the solitary, almost depressing life of Doug on
Christmas Eve - a middle aged man living in a rural area in Yorkshire. Doug is in
quite a large rut in his life, struggling emotionally after his wife left him and is about
to spend his first Christmas alone in a long time.

He is truly at rock bottom.

Feeling abandoned and lonely, he is ready to go to bed early - but as he is about to get
up there's a knock at the door - he wasn't expecting anyone so who could it be?
Doug's neighbours (a man and his wife) are at the door and they come round for a
cup of tea (or dinner, perhaps) which makes him feel happy and as if someone
remembers or cares about his existence. The wife and her husband are unremarkable
and bland, but it doesn't matter. This bout of joy however quickly declines after they
leave, and he goes up to bed.

It is now Christmas Day, but Doug doesn't feel like getting out of bed. Finally
inspired by his desperately ringing alarm clock, he rises and goes downstairs. The
thing is that Doug never bothered to light up his Christmas tree, so it concealed a
present his neighbour's wife had put there the night before.
Elated, Doug opens it up with a childlike smile and ecstasy about him. In the box he
finds exactly what he needed - something to cheer him up and make him feel less
lonely - his very own fleshlight (your product). Heading upstairs to use it, the advert
concludes with a positive aura to it.

The Music
For our advert, we will be using Lonely This Christmas (Acoustic) by John Adams.
Found by our director, it was evident that this song was a completely perfect fit for
what we wanted to achieve, in terms of length, lyrics and character.

The song was originally released by Mud in 1990, narrating a lonely and empty
Christmas, but the original just doesn't set the mood as well as this one does.

Our idea is designed integrally around this music, which is why I predict it will fit so
well in the final piece. Many of the lyrics in the song will be directly translated into
shots.
