CHAPTER-4: NEWTONIAN MECHANICS

Prepared By NRA Sir, Lecturer in PHYSICS

Angular velocity, Centripetal force, Centrifugal force and angle of
the Banking of roads:
1. An object of mass 2Kg is revolving round a point with uniform angular velocity 3ms-1 with
the help of a thread of length 1m.
Find:
(i) the centripetal or centrifugal acceleration on the object.
(ii) the tension of the thread or the centripetal or centrifugal force on the object.
(iii) How many times the object will rotate in 100 seconds.

2. The pointers of the wall clock are revolving round the center after a definite interval of
time. Find the
(i) Angular velocity of the hour pointer of length 10cm of a wall clock
(ii) Linear velocity of the second pointer of length 11cm of a wall clock

3. An electric fan is revolving with 600rpm. It comes to rest just after 4 sec of the switching
off the fan.
(i) Find the retardation of the fan.
(ii) Calculate how many times it was rotated before coming to rest.

4. A bucket full of water is revolving along the circular path of radius 40cm in a vertical
plane.
(i) At what minimum speed it has to be rotated so that the water does not fall when
upside becomes down at the top of the vertical plane. [ 1.98ms-1]
(ii) Calculate the difference of the tension on the thread at the top and the bottom of the
motion of the bucket

5. In hydrogen atom an electron revolves round the nucleus along the 1st orbit of
radius 0.53‫ܣ‬௢

(i) Find the centrifugal acceleration of the electron

(ii) Find how many times the electron will rotate around the nucleus per second.

6. At what velocity a motor bike can take a turn in a turning of radius 100m with the angle of
inclination by 30o safely.

7. A car is taking a turn with velocity 50Km/hr at the turning of a road of radius 60m. What
should be the angle of banking of the road? [18.16o]

8. The radius of the turning of a rail line is 49m and the distance between the two rail is 1.5
m. The height of the outer rail is 0.15m compared to the inner rail. At what maximum
velocity the rail can run safely? [6.95ms-1]
