Project Manager (Female), Safe Space for female

refugees and infants


Kos, Greece

Glocal Roots is a small, non-profit-organization with projects in Switzerland and


Greece. Glocal Roots develops projects with the aim of increasing and strengthening
the resilience and independence of displaced people. We are looking for a Project
Manager for our new Safe Space for refugee women and infants on Kos.

Project Overview:

The new Safe Space Kos is located on the outskirts of Pyli village and is planned to open in
January 2021. The Safe Space will function as a community center for refugee women and
offer various activities, workshops and distributions to women aged 15+ years and their
infants aged 3 years old and under. Through the use of educational and Psychosocial
Support (PSS) activities, we want to rebuild female refugees’ confidence, establish
community networks and support systems, and facilitate integration into Greek society.
Ultimately, we aim to support women in living a self-determined and empowered life.

We are recruiting a passionate and skilled Project Manager who will lead on the
opening of the Kos Safe Space, and also oversee the implementation of the above-
mentioned activities as well as the long-term running of the center. The team will
consist of a Project Manager who will manage the center, a project coordinator, a
team of 2-3 external volunteers, and approximately 10 community volunteers from the
local refugee community.

Purpose of the role: To manage all operations related to the new Kos Safe Space

Contract Length: Open-ended

Hours: Full-time

Start Date: January (flexible)

Salary: Competitive salary (local contract)

Key areas of responsibility:

· Establish and maintain relationships with local authorities and relevant stakeholders
· Implement and develop the center’s activities during the start-up phase
· Responsible for the smooth running of daily operations
· Lead planning, and monitoring of all activities in accordance with budgets and work plans
· Team management
· Recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers, facilitating weekly team meetings in
cooperation with the project coordinator
· Budget management
· Monthly reporting and monitoring reports
· Participate in report and proposal writing for the Kos Safe Space
· Represent Glocal Roots at inter-association meetings

Essential criteria:

· Female, at least 25 years old


· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Greek and English (Greek Residency
preferred)
· Highly proactive and organized, able to manage and prioritise a busy, high-pressure work
load
· Imaginative and solution-oriented
· Experience working in the field of humanitarian aid, refugees and/or migration
· Project coordination/management experience
· Exprerience in administrative tasks
· Proficiency in using Google Docs, spreadsheets and other presentation tools
· Able to work in a challenging and dynamic work environment
· Passionate about grassroots solidarity with people in vulnerable contexts
· Full driving license

Desired criteria:

· Knowledge of the specific refugee context in Kos


· Further language skills (e.g. French, Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish etc.)
· Experience of working/volunteering within grassroots organisations in Greece
