State whether parts are tobe shipped treight, express or parcel post. Claims for shortage or error should be made immediately upon receipt of material LUBRICATION Be aur All working parts including gears, main bearing, hold-down bearing and both pinion ‘shaft bearings are lubricated with a single cilbath system. The reservoirs are filled and ‘gauged at the filler plug on top ofthe rotary lable (SEE THE ILLUSTRATION, AT POINT 1), All grt and foreign matteriscollected in a sump (SEE ILLUSTRATION, AT POINT 2 & 3} kom which tmay be removed periodically For a new rotary or one which has been thoroughly drained, the filer plug is removed fand oll is added until tne. “ull” mark Is ‘reached on the gaugestick. Therotary then rotated for a few minutos during which time the ails circulated. Some oll will remain in the main bearing and capsule. When the rotary is stopped, the oil evel willshow below the “ll” mark on the gauge. An additional ‘amount is then added to bring the oil level up to the fll mack. ‘The oll should be checked daily. Lift the table guard by removing the bolts located at the edge of the rotary top plate. 2. Remove the lower mud ring. (4 Bolts only. See Rotary Parts Drawing). 3. Remove the elastic stop nuts which fasten the hold-down ring to the base. These nuts are located on the underside of the base. 4. Lift the table away from the rotary base. Itis best to lock the master bushing in the table and then placing the two bushing lifting handles in the bushing, as ameans for attachment to a block and tackle. 5. Place the table upside down on the floor. Remove the capscrews which hold the bearing support ring to the table and remove the support ring. Note shims. 6. Remove lower race. Remove lower balls and ball spacer. Remove middle race. Remove upper balls and ball spacer. 7. Remove hold down ring 8. The upper race may be removed by driving wedges between the race and table in about three (3) places. Gently warm the race if necessary. REPLACING THE MAIN BEARING 1. Reverse the procedure given above by installing upper race, hold down ring, upper ball and spacer, middle race, lower balls and spacer, lower race and bearing support ring. 2. Replace only about 4 capscrews in support ring. The main bearing assembly should be .002" to .006” loose. This can be adjusted by the shims between the table and the bearing support ring. 3. Replace the remaining support ring bolts except those which hold the lower mud ring. 4. Turn the table right side up in the base with the flat of the hold down ring at the pinion gear. CAPSULE ASSEMBLY REMOVING THE ROTARY SPROCKET 1. Remove the capscrews (A) which hold the sprocket to the hub. 2.Attach puller bolts tothe sprocket hub (8). 3.Pullthe hub from the shaft with @ 2-Ton jack. 4. Orive out the sprocket ey. REPLACING THE OIL SEAL ‘The oil seal is located just inside the sprocket and cover plate. 1. Take out he capscrews (C) holding ne cover plate tothe capsule, ‘and remove the cover plate (0). 2. Drive the oil seal (E)outol the ‘cover plate and drive in @ new oi! seal by tapping lightly around t periphery. DO NOT distort the new seal or smash It by too severe hhammer blows. 3, When assembling the cover plate with new oil ‘eal back into position, take care not to damage the sealing lip ofthe seal REMOVING THE CAPSULE ‘Any other repairs to the capsule assombly will necessitate removing the capsule from the rotary base. 1, Remove the elastic stop nuts which hold the capsule to the base, 2. The capsule can now be removed horizontally trom the Dore in the base. If the capsule fits tight, it can be started out by screwing in on the two Allen Head Jack Screws provided for this purpose on the flanged part of the capsule, REPLACEMENT OF THE CAPSULE BEARINGS 1DECO Rotaries have a straight roller bearing in the eprocket end of the capsule, A double tapered roller bearings used on the pinion ends REMOVING THE PINION END BEARINGS 1, Remove the six hex head cap screws which hold the pinion end. cover plate to the capsule, 2. With the sprocket off the shatt, femove the shaft with pinion, cover plate, pinion end bearing from the capsule body. (The sprocket end bearing inner race which i shrunk onto the shaft will come outwith the shaft) 9, Press the pinion and pinion end bearing off the shaft by fitinga piece of pipe ‘ver the shaft and against the inner race ofthe bearing. Then pres the shalt through both members. A press of approximately 25-t capacity will be required REPLACING THE PINION END BEARINGS ‘A Double Tapered bearing is used in the pinion end. 1. Heat the bearing components to @ temperature of 250°F in oil or with steam in order to shrink them on the shat. 2. Press the bearing up to ine shoulder of the shatt. REMOVING e THE SPROCKET END BEARING ‘To remove thisbearing the capsule must be removed from the rotary ‘base, and the pinion shaft must be removed trom the capsule, as ‘mentioned earlier. The inner race of this Bearing being shrunk an, will come out with the shaft. This inner race may be cut witha torch oF ariven off 1. Remove the six hex head capscrews which hold the cover plate to the capsule on the sprocket end. 2. Drive the bearing wih its ‘outer race trom the capsule body REPLACING THE SPROCKET END BEARING 1. Heat the bearing inner race to 200° to 250" F with steam orina pot of oll. 2 Shrink theinner race on the pinion shaft. itis to betitted well up against the shoulder of the shaft. 3. The outer race and Dearing rollers can be driven into the capsule body with light, even taps around the outer edge. Usea block of wood anda light hammer. Do not hammer directly on the outer race. ASSEMBLING THE CAPSULE [Aer replacing the bearings, the shaft can be assembles 1. Place the pinion end cover plate in position against the pinion bearing. 2 Replace the pinion key and press the pinion onto the shalt as far as possible. A press with approximately 25-ton capacity, ‘ig required, 3. Insert the shaft assembly into the capsule. 4 Position pinion end cover plate so that the oll pockets are orizontal land face up in elation to the marked "TOP" ofthe capsule. Replace Ccapscrews, tightenandwire. 5. Replace sprocket end cover plate to capsule body. replace capscrews, tighten and wire. ‘The capsule is now ready for assembly tothe rotary base, Note the dowel onthe capsule flange: this fits ahole on the face of he base so that the capsule may be located in the proper position. Next, the capsule must be held in correct relation with table so the gears wil mesh for the full width. The mounting distance for the pinion is Stamped on the face of the pinion. This isthe distance measured from the center of the rotary base to the face of the pinion gear ‘Shims placed between the capsule flange and the rotary basemakeit possible to maintain this correct mounting distance. This setting should not be disturbed until new Ring Gear and/or Pinion Gears Installed + pinion I~ RING GEAR MOUNTING STANCE GEAR CLEARANCES The gear teeth should have a minimum of %" tooth clearance between the top of the pinion teeth and the bottom of the ring gear teeth This tooth clearance cannot be conveniently measured, but will be automatically set to the proper amount if the backlash on the gears is properly adjusted. To assure smooth operation and ample tooth clearance for wear allowance, a backlash is preferable, .035" to .050" at the pinion pitch diameter on all Rotaries. By blocking the table and gently rocking the sprocket back and forth, the backlash can be determined. If the backlash is less than the desired amount, shims should be added under the middle race ring. This will raise the table and increase the backlash. Three sizes of shims are normally -turnished, 1/32", 1/16” and 1/8" thickness. With a combination of these three sizes, the proper adjustment can be made. Do not attempt to increase backlash by placing shims between base and capsule flange. After the proper tooth clearance adjustments are made, the hold-down ring is then tightened by replacing and screwing up the nuts on the underside of the base. ROTARY TABLE LOCKS NOTE FIGURE 1 FOR THE LOCATION OF THE LOCKS AUTOMATIC SIDE LOCK - When the side lock is placed in the engaged position manually, the table is locked in a counter-clockwise direction, This holds the drill pipe when breaking a joint with the cathead. When the joint is broken, the rotary is rotated clockwise to complete unscrewing the joint. It is not necessary to unlock the table, as any clockwise rotation will automatically disengage the lock. When the next jointis to be broken, the lock is again manually engaged. It will return to the unlocked position when Grilling operations are started. 49% DESCRIPTION | PART NO. | LOCK LEVER | 389-27-05 LOCK PIN 308-59 Lock 308-180 PIN 304-258 | SPRING 312-ME |_COTTER PINS A" X14 ‘TOP TABLE LOCK - This lock is operated by a handle (2) which engages a plunger (1) in the notches in the table, The handle, when lying down in the recess in the rotary base, acts as a safety catch, thus avoiding accidental engagement or disengagement.
