AIR, WATER AND WEATHER

IN THIS CHAPTER, WE SHALL LEARN ABOUT…

AIR AROUND US
• COMPOSITION OF AIR
• AIR POLLUTION

WATER
• FORMS OF WATER
• CHANGE IN STATES OF WATER
• WATER CYCLE
• WATER CONSERVATION

WEATHER
• FACTORS AFFECTING WEATHER
• DIFFERENT SEASONS
CAN YOU SOLVE THESE RIDDLES?

If you drop a yellow hat in the Red If you were swimming in the ocean
Sea, what does it become? and a big alligator attacked you,
what would you do?

Who Am I?
I can be sparkling but I’m not a star, I go solid in freezers,
I can run but I don’t have any legs, In rivers I can flow,
I can fall but I don’t get hurt, My chemical formula
I’m found in a bath but I’m not a rubber duck,
I can help you clean but I’m not soap!  Is known as H2O!

WATER
WATER
❑ One hot day, a thirsty crow flew all over the fields looking for water. For a long
time, he could not find any. He felt very weak, almost lost all hope…and so on… the
story continues…it tells us the importance of water for all living beings.

❑ Water is an essential thing for life to exist on the Earth.

Earth: The blue planet!

Water constitutes most of the Earth’s surface area.

It is vital for all the known life forms on this Earth.

Pure water has no taste, no colour and no odour or smell.

Water is the only substance which naturally exists in 3 forms on

the Earth…SOLID, LIQUID and GAS.
SOLID

▪ Ice is the solid form of water.

▪ Water freezes in very cold condition i.e. at very low temperature
and changes to ice, which is the solid form.
▪ It can also freeze in the atmosphere in form of snow/hail.
LIQUID

• Water that we drink and that can flow is the liquid

form of water.
• Water remains in liquid form at room temperature.
GAS

• Steam or water vapour is the gaseous form of water.

• When water is heated, it is converted into water vapour.
SOLIDS, LIQUIDS, GASES AROUND US…
• SOLIDS, LIQUIDS
AND GASES HAVE
SOME DIFFERENT
PROPERTIES.
• THEY ARE
DIFFERENT FROM
EACH OTHER IN
THEIR
CHARACTERISTICS.

WORK TO BE DONE IN THE GENERAL SCIENCE NOTEBOOK

Q1: Mention the names of three forms of water. Also

draw the three forms.
Q2: Differentiate between the solid, liquid and gas.
