Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

In this activity student will be tasked with going into the world and recording a video of momentum
happening in the real world and then well be asked to edit the video adding in music, pictures, and some sort
of audio voice over describing the video and pictures used. The technology serves as a catalyst for the
students to show their understanding over the topic. When it comes to UDL the main function being targeted
here is allowing students a different way for students to show their mastery of an idea. The main function of
this assignment to put students in the place of a creator to generate some physical thing to show their
understanding rather than simply testing knowledge.
Lesson idea implementation:
As for the role of the teacher and students we have a lot of the focus being on the students and less on the
teacher. As the teacher I am there to support students with any questions they have and some guiding tips for
students using video editing software, but that would be the extent of my teacher influence. As for the
students they will oversee the rest. From what software to what they decide to record everything is up in the
air and allows for the to all have a diverse selection of videos put together. Every student or group of students
will produce their own original work,
When it comes to after the completion each student or group will present their video and then students will
be allowed time to discuss the information provided. For student who want to I will also allow them the lead
mini lesson over their video if they want to go further on their project. At the end of everyone presentation
new will discuss why it is important for us to know how momentum works in the real world. Students will
receive feedback partly from their peers and partly from me.

Importance of technology:
One of the most important reasons for using multimedia authoring tool is too allow the students to post the
video online and have ownership of it. It is nice to be able to simply show the class but posting it for the world
to see shares the knowledge with a larger audience. The project could be completed without it because

students could simply upload the video on a flash drive and launch the video on a computer. Although you
may think that simply video is just recording and then uploading, but the use of editing software is extremely
important tool to learn to use to make a quality project.
Inspiration (optional):
Obviously, most projects take inspiration from other things, but I could not think back to what put the ideas
for this lesson.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

One of the biggest issues that students could run in to when it comes to posting this project online would be
if the students gave away any personal information or any information about their surroundings.one of the
best ways to keep things safe and secure is having open communication with the school and family. Now if
both are uncomfortable idea then we can do what was mentioned in the importance of technology section
which was to not use an authoring tool, or simply do not post the video. The students may not be able to
share their work across all the internet, but this keeps them safe in all regards.
Reflective Practice:
I think other than simply the impact of the lesson on students the experiences gained by filming and editing
this piece of work are valuable. Learning how to record a quality video and to use video editing software, even
on a small scale, is something they could be valuable in their personal life or career in the future. I also believe
that this idea of creating a project also allows for students to take pride in creating something rather than
simply answering question on a page.
