APTITUDE FOR PLACEMENTS

Aptitude consists of Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability.

A lot of students face issues cracking the Aptitude tests.

Let's try to understand the reason:

1. Failing to start the preparation at the right time.

2. Lack of conceptual understanding.

3. Taking Aptitude lightly assuming that it's just basic Maths (This is not true). Dedicated preparation is
necessary.

4. Lack of regular practice.

5. Practicing conventional ideas and not practicing the right methodology / approach / shortcuts.

Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus:

1. Number Systems 10.Equations
2. Time and Work, Pipes and Cisterns 11. Partnerships
3. Time, Speed and Distance 12. Problems on ages
4. Percentages 13. Permutations and Combinations
5. Profit and Loss 14. Probability
6. Mixtures and Allegations 15. Logarithms
7. Simple and Compound interest 16. Functions
8. Averages 17. Geometry
9. Ratio & Proportions 18.Mensuration

A few important points to note:

1. Chapters like Geometry are important for TCS. You can ignore them for now and start focusing on the other
topics.

2. Topics like Logarithms, Mensuration are formulae based. You should complete it fast.

3. The remaining topics are heavy and you must work on them properly.

4. Don't search for important topics. Don't trust any online sources that provide important topics because you
will get questions from almost all topics.

5. If you find it hectic, let me give you a better option. You can ignore 1 or 2 topics maximum.

But be very strong with the remaining chapters. It's important to follow a certain order to have flow in
learning.

Start with the following topics.

1. Ratio and Proportions

2. Percentages

Then move on to the remaining topics.

Logical Reasoning Syllabus:

1. Coding, Decoding, Number series 6. Venn diagrams

2. Visual Reasoning 6. Blood relations
3. Clocks 8. Directions
4. Calendars 9. Coded in equalities
5. Data Arrangements 10. Syllogism

A few important points to note:

1. Same rules apply for logical reasoning. You will get questions from all topics. It's always good to prepare the
entire syllabus.

2. You can start with any topic as the topics are not related to each other unlike Quants.

3. My suggestion for you all is to start with Data Arrangement topic.

This can't be prepared in a day or a week. Regular practice is Vital.

Also start with coding decoding, Blood Relations, Venn Diagrams, directions.

4. Logical is not as heavy as Quants. However, topics like Venn Diagrams, Syllogism, Clocks, need a lot of
understanding and practice.

5. I have observed students taking logical part lightly (assuming that logical reasoning can be solved with just
common sense).

Yes of course applying your common sense, presence of mind is vital. But do understand that you need to do
the right preparation conceptually and also practice to improve your speed.

Verbal Ability Syllabus:

1. Grammar (Sentence correction, Sentence Completion)

2. Reading Comprehension
3. Para jumbles
4. Critical Reasoning
5. Vocabulary
6. Essay Writing
Verbal cannot be improved in a day or so. Understand this very well.
How to get started?
1. Read regularly (novels, articles, blogs, etc. of your choice).
Spending minimum half an hour per day for this is important. This should become a habit.
2. I will also suggest a book that will give you a good grip over English language and vocabulary.
"Word Power Made Easy"
Irrespective of whether you prepare for placements or competitive exams, it's important to start with this
book. Regular reading of 30 minutes will suffice. You can order this book online. Try to purchase this to the
earliest.
3. Then, start preparing Grammar and then move on to the portions as per the syllabus.

All the very best…!
