Activity 1: Read t he following text and complete with the correct present continuous form
The bicycle industry began in China in the 1930s,and soon there were bicycles everywhere. People
called China the bicycle kingdom. But now the situation is changing change).The economy is
grewing (grow), and Chinese people are making (make) more money. They aren’t buying (not
buy) bicycles, they are buying (buy) cars. In 2005 there were 20 million cars in China. Now experts
are saying (say) the number will be 140 million in the year 2020.

happening now or around the moment of speaking.
Activity 1: Read the following information about Mike and complete the first paragraph with the
present simple and the second paragraph with the present continuous
Mike is a typical student. He usually wakes (wake) up at 5:00. Then takes (take) a shower and
then has breakfast. After six he leaves home (leave home) to go to the university. He always takes
(take/always) the bus and the subway. He never travels (travel/never) by taxi because is so
expensive. After class he walks (walk) to the bus stop. Sometimes he goes (go) to the subway
station on foot.
Temporary event
This month there are some changes in Mike´s routines. This month he is waking up (wake up) at
7:00. Then he takes shower and then has breakfast. This month he is leaving home (leave home)
at 9:00. This week he isn’t taking (not take) the bus and the subway because they are being
repaired. He is taking (take) taxi instead.
