1. GENERAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS:


The information brochure is for application for admission to the AICTE approved Post-Graduate

Degree Programmes (M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch ), offered by 15 Departments under Faculty of
Engineering & Technology (FET) and 10 Interdisciplinary Schools under Faculty of Interdisciplinary
Studies, Law and Management (FISLM) and affiliated to the FET for the session 2020-21. All the
programmes except five (separately marked as 6-semester evening programmes) are 4-Semester
Day Programmes.
The Post-Graduate Degree Programme on Multimedia Development (MMD) is a UGC approved
programme.
The Post-Graduate Degree Programme (M.Pharm.) on “Pharmacy” offered by the Department of
Pharmaceutical Technology is pending renewal of AICTE approval.
1.1. Admission Categories:
Admissions to these programmes of the Institute are open under the following categories –
Category A – GATE / GPAT for candidate qualified through GATE / GPAT and having a valid
GATE / GPAT result in terms of the validity period and the cut-off marks in the
candidate’s respective reservation category, if any.
Award of scholarships for GATE / GPAT qualified candidates is not the
responsibility of the University. The candidates with valid GATE / GPAT
score, who will be admitted to a programme duly approved by the
concerned authority, are to apply for the scholarship directly to the
concerned regulatory authority, when notified for doing so and will start to
enjoy the scholarship directly from the authority if sanctioned by the
respective authority.
Category B – Sponsored for in-service professionals with a minimum experience, as
stipulated in the eligibility condition, after passing the qualifying degree and duly
sponsored by his/her employer.
Category C – Self-Sponsored for candidates satisfying minimum eligibility condition with or
without valid GATE/GPAT score for specified programmes only and fulfilling
other programme specific criteria, if any.

2. ELIGIBILITY FOR APPLICANTS:


2.1. General Eligibility Criteria for all Three Categories:
2.1.1.Obtained Qualifying Degree (as given in Tables: 1.1 to 1.4 for each of the programmes)
with minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.75 in a scale of 10 (or 60% marks) for
General Candidate and minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.15 (54%) for OBC
(both A & B) – Non-Creamy Layer Candidates and minimum Grade Point Average
(GPA) of 5.25 (45%) for SC / ST Candidates.
2.1.1.1. For the P.G. Programme in Mechanical Engineering (all specialisation) it is
essential to have minimum Grade Point Average of 7.25 (or 65%) for General
candidates and minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.6 (58.5%) for OBC
(both A & B) – Non-Creamy Layer Candidates and minimum Grade Point Average
(GPA) of 5.625 (48.75%) for SC / ST Candidates.
2.1.2.Candidates passing Membership / Associate Membership Examination in the
appropriate discipline conducted by the Government of India approved professional

bodies, namely, Institution of Engineers (India) / Indian Institute of Architects / Indian


Institute of Chemical Engineers / Institute of Electronics Telecommunication Engineers /
Indian Institute of Metals / with same minimum GPA (or marks) as mentioned above are
also eligible for admission to the corresponding programmes subject to production of
the AICTE approval of the course document.
2.1.3.Candidates who have appeared / are due to appear at the qualifying examination in the
session 2019-2020 may also apply under Category (A) or (C). They must have
Arithmetic Average of Grade Point (GPA) of 6.75 in a scale of 10 (or 60% marks) for
General Candidate and 6.15 (54%) for OBC (both A & B) – Non-Creamy Layer
Candidates and 5.25 (45%) for SC / ST Candidates. The Arithmetic Average is to be
computed by considering all the results (semester or annual as the case may be) up to

the pre-final year level of the qualifying degree examination, i.e. 1 year of 2-year

and 1 to 4 year of 5-year programme. For qualifying degree in Engineering, the 1
year result(s) should not be considered in averaging. If selected, they may be
provisionally admitted to the programme and shall have to submit the final mark sheet of
the qualifying examination, fulfilling all the criteria as mentioned, before commencement
of the First Year First Semester Examination of the concerned programme. Failing this
the provisional admission will be cancelled.
2.2. Category wise Additional Eligibility Criteria:
2.2.1.Category A: GATE / GPAT – Having a valid GATE / GPAT score in terms of the validity
period and the cut-off marks in the candidate’s respective reservation category, if any
2.2.2.Category B: Sponsored – Being in service and duly sponsored by his/her present
employer for the entire duration of the programme. Minimum 1 (one) year of experience
after passing the qualifying degree. Relevant experience shall be counted from the date
of joining the job after the qualifying degree but not earlier than 1st August of the
calendar year of passing the qualifying degree, till last date of online submission of the
application as stipulated in this brochure under item 6.
2.2.2.1. Department wise Additional Criteria
2.2.2.1.1. For the P.G. programmes in Civil Engineering (all specialisation)
minimum 2 (two) years of experience is essential.
2.2.2.1.2. For the P.G. programmes in Electronics & Telecommunication
Engineering (all specialisation) minimum Grade Point Average of 7.25
(or 65%) in the qualifying Degree Examination and minimum 2 (two) years
of experience are essential.
2.2.2.1.3. For the P.G. programme in Power Engineering, candidates having a valid
GATE score and applying under this category, fulfilling all other criteria will
be preferred for selection over candidates without a valid GATE score
2.2.2.1.4. For the P.G. programme in Production Engineering (both
specialisation), candidates must have a valid GATE score.

2.2.3.Category C: Self-Sponsored – Candidates are allowed to apply under this category


only for the programmes listed below. Applications under this category for any other
programme will summarily be rejected without any further correspondence.

2.3. Qualifying Degrees: List of qualifying degrees for each of the programmes (with
specialisations) is provided in the Tables: 1.1 to 1.4.

3. SEAT AVAILABILITY
Category and Reservation wise Seat Matrix for each programme is provided in Tables: 2.1 to 2.4
3.1. Reservation of Seats
3.1.1.SC / ST / OBC Reservation:
Reservation of Seats for Scheduled Cast (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward
Class (Category A) (OBC-A) and Other Backward Class (Category B) (OBC-B) are as
per Government of West Bengal Circular No. 267–Edn (U)/1U-89/13 dated 04.03.14
read with the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in
Admission) Act 2013 (West Bengal Act X of 2013) gazetted on 30th April 2013 and the
West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules
2013 gazetted on 4th January 2014. OBC Certificates should have proper validation of
Non Creamy Layer criteria conforming to Government of West Bengal Memorandum
No. 1204-SBCW/MR-67/10 dated 27-07-2015.
As per circular no. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt. 06/08/1984 & BCD-I, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD
(R.CELL) dt. 08/01/1990 and letter no. 1510-SCW dt. 31/05/2007 of the Government of
West Bengal, candidates, with reservation certificates of SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B /
PwD category issued by any State other than West Bengal, are not entitled for SC / ST /
OBC(A) / OBC(B) reserved seats in Educational Institutions in West Bengal.
3.1.2.PwD Reservation:
Reservation of seats following the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016,
gazetted on 28 December 2016, Government of West Bengal letter No. 65–Edn(U)/1U-
89/13 dated 16.01.2014 and notification No. 526-Edn (U)/1U-137/14 Date: 29.05.2015
is available for Persons with Disability (PwD) who have a minimum 40% disability with
respect to Locomotor disorder, Visual impairment and/or Speech & Hearing Impairment
subject to the condition that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities related
to theory and practical work of the programme without any special concession and
exemption.
Certificate in this order is to be issued by the Officer-in-Charge or Medical Head of
Primary Health Centres, Block Primary Health Centres, State General Hospitals, Rural
Hospitals, Sub-Divisional Hospitals or the District Hospitals run by the State
Government or any hospital run by a statutory body or authority.
3.1.3.Reservation under Sports Quota:
Separate notification will be issued by the university for admission under sports quota,
for which there may be a maximum of one seat in each programme, offered by the
departments under FET on supernumerary basis and will not be eligible for scholarship.

4. SELECTION NORMS:
No admission test will be conducted for applicants of any Category (A, B or C) for admission to
any M.E. / M.Tech / M.Pharm / M.Arch / MMD programmes under FET and FISLM of Jadavpur
University for the session 2020-21. Allotment of seats shall be based upon the category wise
merit list prepared as per following norms and considering the preference of the candidate.
4.1. Preparation of Merit List:
4.1.1.Category A – GATE / GPAT Candidates:
On the basis of GATE score (out of 1000) or GPAT Score (out of 500) whichever is
applicable.
4.1.2.Category B – Sponsored Candidates
On a scale of 100 calculated by considering –
 Final Percentage Marks of the Qualifying Degree Examination in a scale of 60
 Aggregate Percentage Marks of the Secondary (or equivalent) Examination in a
scale of 30
 Marks for Relevant Experience at 1 per year with a Maximum of 10
[Relevant experience shall be counted from the date of joining the job after the
qualifying degree but not earlier than 1st August of the calendar year of passing
the qualifying degree, till last date of online submission of the application as
stipulated in this brochure under item 6]
4.1.3.Category C – Self Sponsored Candidates
On a scale of 100 calculated on the basis of –
 Final Percentage Marks of the Qualifying Degree Examination in a scale of 60
 Aggregate Percentage Marks of the Secondary (or equivalent) Examination in a
scale of 40
4.2. Tie Breaking Rule:
In case of any tie in the merit list prepared on the basis of proposed criteria, the following
parameters may be used in the given order to break such tie –
 Marks of Qualifying Degree
(Percentage Final Marks of the qualifying degree examination. If final marks is due
then Arithmetic Average of all the results (semester or annual as the case may be)
up to the pre-final year level of the qualifying degree examination, i.e. 1st year of
2-year programme, 1st and 2nd year of 3-year programme, 1st to 3rd year of 4-
year programme and 1st to 4th year of 5-year programme. For qualifying degree
in Engineering, the 1st year result(s) should not be considered in averaging.
 Percentage aggregate marks of secondary or equivalent examination.
 Date of Birth (Person born earlier will get higher preference)
4.3. Filling up of Vacant Seats:
4.3.1.Unfilled seats of Category A, if any, will be filled up by the candidates applied under
Category C, if the programmes permit Self-sponsored candidates to apply (refer: clause
2.2.3). For all other programme those will remain unfilled.
4.3.2.For the programmes which have seats for GATE candidates (refer: Table 2.1 and Table
2.3), Unfilled seats of Category B will be filled up by the candidates applied under
Category A and after exhaustion of all such candidates if seats still remain unfilled, it will
be filled by candidates applied under Category C, if the programmes permit Self-
sponsored candidates to apply (refer: clause 2.2.3).

4.3.3.For the programmes which do not have seats for GATE candidates (refer: Table 2.2 and
Table 2.4), unfilled seats of Category B will be filled up by the candidates applied under
Category C.

5. HOW TO APPLY:
5.1. An individual can submit only ONE application. Submission of multiple application forms by
one individual may lead to cancellation of all the applications without any further
correspondence.
5.2. An applicant can opt for a maximum of 8 (Eight) options and out of that maximum 1 (One)
option may be under Category B.
5.3. For programmes not offering any specialisation, the programme will be considered as one
option and for programmes offering two or more specialisations each specialisation will be
considered as separate options.
5.4. All Applications are to be made online following the instructions given in the brochure against
a non-refundable application fee of ` 1000.00 (Rupees One Thousand only) for each
candidate.

6. INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING-UP THE APPLICATION FORM (ONLINE):


6.1. For admission to the M.E. / M.Tech / M.Pharm / M.Arch / MMD programmes under FET and
FISLM of Jadavpur University for the session 2020-2021 a candidate is to apply online
through the URL: https://jupgengineering.jadavpuruniversity.in from August 15 to 26,
2020.
6.2. Candidates are advised to carefully read the information and follow the instructions given in
this Information Brochure before filling up the online Application Form.
6.3. Incomplete application forms are liable to be cancelled without any further information.
6.4. The requisite application fee is to be deposited online following the instruction given in the
application portal. The transaction slip of the successful payment is to be carefully preserved
for all future reference.
6.5. An applicant can opt for a maximum of 8 (Eight) options and out of that maximum 1 (One)
option may be under Category B.
6.6. The applicant must rank his/her applications in order of preference. Preferences once
submitted cannot be altered. Allotment, if any, will follow the preferences opted for by the
applicant and upgradation can be only from a lower preference to higher and cannot be
reverted back at any stage.
6.7. Advisories for filling in the following information in the application form –
a. The Date of Birth of the candidate.
b. The reservation category of the candidate, viz. SC, ST, PwD, OBC(A), OBC(B) [OBC
category must be from Non Creamy Layer], wherever applicable is to be selected.
Reservation of seats will be available against valid reservation certificates issued by
the competent authority of the Government of West Bengal only. The qualification of
GATE / GPAT will be checked based upon reservation category of the candidate, if
any for candidates from both inside and outside West Bengal.
c. Details of GATE / GPAT, viz. Subject, Year, Marks (out of 100) and the normalized
Score (out of 1000 for GATE and out of 500 for GPAT) for the candidates having valid
GATE / GPAT score.
d. The percentage marks obtained in the secondary or equivalent examination. If
required, the grade to percentage conversion formula of the respective board to be
used [the formula must be legible in the scanned supporting document]

e. The percentage marks of Higher Secondary or equivalent examination, Final Diploma


in Engineering Examination and Final Bachelor of Science Examination, whichever is
applicable.
f. Programme name, Year of Passing and Result of the Qualifying Degree. If the result
of the final examination is –
 Available, final percentage marks of the qualifying degree examination, OR
 Due (for Category A and C candidates only), arithmetic average of grade point
computed by considering all the results (semester or annual as the case may be)
up to the pre-final year level of the qualifying degree examination. For qualifying
degree in Engineering, the 1st year result(s) should not be considered in
averaging [refer clause 2.1.3]
g. For qualifying degree the results must be entered in the percentage of marks format.
Conversion of Grade Point to Percentage of Marks, if required, should be done by the
applicant using, either –
i. The conversion formula of the board/university, if any such is mentioned in
the result sheet and legible in the scanned copy, OR
ii. by the AICTE advised formula when GPA is in a scale of 10 –
% 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑘𝑠 = (𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑒 𝑃𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡 − 0.75) × 10 ].
In case, the GPA of qualifying degree is not in a scale of 10, the obtained
GPA is to be converted to GPA in a scale of 10 in pro rata basis and then the
formula is to be applied.
h. For category B candidates, Details of the work experiences (starting with the present
service up to the first job after getting the qualifying degree), viz. Name of
organisation, Address of the organisation, Designation, Date of Joining and Date of
Leaving.
6.8. Scanned copies of the following documents are to be mandatorily uploaded along with the
application. In case any such is of multiple pages the same should be scanned as a single
pdf. ALL SCANNED DOCUMENTS SHOULD BE PROPERLY LEGIBLE. ILLEGIBLE
SUPPORTING DOCUMENT MAY LEAD TO CANCELLATION OF THE CANDIDATURE
WITHOUT ANY FURTHER COMMUNICATION.
a. Certificate or admit card of secondary or equivalent examination as proof of Date of
Birth.
b. Valid SC / ST / OBC(A) / OBC (B) Certificate issued by the Government of West
Bengal and PwD (Person with Disability) Certificate issued by the competent
authority, if applicable. OBC certificate must conform to Non Creamy Layer Criteria.
c. Marks sheet of Secondary or equivalent Examination.
d. Marks sheet of Higher Secondary or equivalent Examination, if applicable.
e. Final marks sheet of Diploma in Engineering Examination, if applicable.
f. Final marks sheet of B.Sc. Examination, if applicable.
g. Marks sheets of all semesters / annual examinations of the Qualifying Degree
Examination (mandatorily up to the pre-final year)
h. In case of Final result (or result of both semesters of final year) of Qualifying Degree
Examination due, A certificate from the Head of the Institution / Controller of
Examinations of the University stating that the candidate has appeared in the final
examination in 2020 and his/her result of the final (and pre-final semester, if
applicable) examination is yet to be published.
i. Valid GATE / GPAT score card for candidates having valid GATE score.
j. For Category B candidates
i. Employment Certificate from the present employer, mentioning designation,
date of joining and present salary, along with the latest Form-16 issued by
the present employer (In case Form 16 Is not provided, TAN document of the
present employer) scanned as a single pdf document.

ii. A No Objection cum Sponsorship Certificate, in the format given in Annexure,


from the present employer.
iii. All previous experience certificate(s) or joining and release letter(s) clearly
indicating the date of joining and leaving to the organisation(s) scanned
chronologically in a single pdf document.
k. For applicants to the 6-semester evening programme of “Water resources &
Hydraulic Engineering” Employment Certificate from the present employer,
mentioning designation, date of joining and present salary, along with the latest Form-
16 issued by the present employer (In case Form 16 Is not provided, TAN document
of the present employer) scanned as a single pdf document.
6.9. Scanned copies of the following documents are preferably to be uploaded along with the
application. In case any of these are not available a declaration to be provided in relevant field
of the form
a. Certificate of Higher Secondary or equivalent Examination, if applicable.
b. Certificate of Diploma in Engineering Examination, if applicable.
c. Certificate of B.Sc. Examination, if applicable.
d. Certificate of the Qualifying Degree Examination
e. Family income certificate issued by the competent authority

7. ALLOTMENT OF SEATS, ENROLMENT, UPGRADATION AND PROVISIONAL ADMISSION:


7.1. The information provided by the applicants will be verified based upon the uploaded
supporting documents and only valid applications will be considered for further processing.
7.2. Allotment of seats (category and reservation wise) will be done using the merit list prepared
on the basis of the criteria parameter(s) for each category and considering the preference of
the applicants.
7.3. In the First Round the applicants will be allotted seats in the programme and category
according to their position in respective merit lists and considering preference opted by them
such that a candidate is allotted seat to the highest possible preference of his/her choice, if
vacancy exists.
7.4. The allotted candidates need to get themselves enrolled for admission in the allotted
programme against payment of an enrolment fee of Rs 2,400/- (Rupees Two Thousand Four
Hundred only) and opting for “float” (yes upgradation) or “freeze” (no upgradation).
Candidate getting allotment at his/her highest preference will be automatically frozen to the
programme and will not get the option of “float”.
7.5. Candidates getting allotment at any round but not enrolling themselves for admission will
automatically be removed from the admission system and will not be considered in the
subsequent rounds.
7.6. For candidates opting for the “float” option, upgradation, if any, in subsequent rounds, will be
binding. The previous allotment will be automatically cancelled and the candidate will be re-
allotted to the upgraded programme without any need of further enrolment.
7.7. After completion of the first round enrolment, the second round of allotment followed by
enrolment will be taken up among all the valid applicants except those, who have opted for
“Enrolment with freeze” condition and those not enrolling even after getting allotment in the
previous round.
7.8. Only the candidates getting allotment for the first time in the second round need to get
themselves enrolled for admission in the allotted programme against payment of an
enrolment fee of Rs 2,400/- (Rupees Two Thousand Four Hundred only) and opting for
“float” (yes upgradation) or “freeze” (no upgradation). Candidate getting allotment at his/her
highest preference will be automatically frozen to the programme and will not get the option
of “float”.

7.9. Candidates, who have enrolled in the first round with “float” condition, may “freeze” their
allotment after the second round, if they feel so. In that case their enrolment will be frozen at
the programme allotted in the second round and they will not be considered for the third
round
7.10. This will be followed by the third round in similar fashion.
7.11. After the third round all previous enrolments with float will be automatically converted to
“freeze” and candidates getting first time allotment in the third round need to get themselves
enrolled for admission in the allotted programme against payment of an enrolment fee of Rs
2,400/- (Rupees Two Thousand Four Hundred only) and their enrolment will be automatically
frozen to the concerned programme.
7.12. Subsequently all enrolled students have to take provisional admission through online system
in the programmes (with specialisation) they have been frozen by paying the remaining part
of the fees, if any. The process of online provisional admission will be notified later.

8. FINAL ADMISSION WITH PHYSICAL DOCUMENT VERIFICATION:


8.1. ALL ONLINE ADMISSIONS, AS WILL BE CONDUCTED NOW, WILL BE PROVISIONAL
AND MAY BE CANCELLED AT ANY POINT OF TIME IF THE CANDIDATE IS FOUND TO
HAVE NOT FULFILLED ANY OF THE REQUIRED CRITERIA
8.2. Subsequently on a later date, to be notified in due time by the university, the admitted
students will have to undergo the physical admission with document verification
process by submitting the following documents and getting them verified with the
originals as applicable.
a. Self-Attested Xerox copies of –
a. Certificate OR admit card of Secondary or equivalent Examination.
b. SC / ST / OBC(A) / OBC (B) Certificate (OBC certificate satisfying Non-Creamy
Layer Criteria) issued by the Government of West Bengal and PwD (Person with
Disability) Certificate issued by the competent authority, if applicable.
c. Marks sheet of Secondary or equivalent Examination.
d. Marks sheet and Certificate of Higher Secondary or equivalent Examination, if
applicable.
e. Final marks sheet and Certificate of Diploma in Engineering Examination, if
applicable.
f. Final marks sheet and Certificate of B.Sc. Examination, if applicable.
g. Marks sheets of all semesters / years ending examinations of the Qualifying
Degree Examination.
h. Certificate of the Qualifying Degree Examination
i. valid GATE / GPAT score card, if applicable,
j. For the students admitted under Category B and the 6-semester evening
programme of Water Resources & Hydraulic Engineering, latest Form-16 issued
by the present employer. In case Form 16 Is not provided, TAN document of the
present employer
k. For the students admitted under Category B, all previous experience certificate(s)
or joining and release letter(s) clearly indicating the date of joining and leaving to
the organisation(s).
b. Original –
a. Family income certificate issued by the competent authority
b. For the students admitted under Category B and the 6-semester evening
programme of Water Resources & Hydraulic Engineering, employment certificate
from the present employer, mentioning designation, date of joining and present
salary.
c. For the students admitted under Category B, the No Objection cum Sponsorship
Certificate from the present employer, in the format given in Annexure-A.

9. IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
9.1. All information regarding the admission will be notified online.
9.2. The fees structure for the programmes (along with categories) are as given in Table: 3.
9.3. The stages of admission and corresponding schedule will follow the chart given in Table: 4.
In case of any unavoidable change, the same will be notified online.
9.4. Registration of application or fulfilment of minimum eligibility criteria does not confer any
right of the applicant to be considered for admission.

9.9. Scholarships for GATE / GPAT qualified candidates are not the responsibility of the
University. Such candidates may apply for fellowship directly to the funding authority within
due date after admission, subject to availability, and fellowship may be awarded to them
solely at the discretion of the funding authority.
9.10. As per AICTE guideline, applicants with valid GATE / GPAT score must have to submit an
undertaking in the form that
If he/she takes admission and receives PG Engineering Fellowship (GATE / GPAT) from the
authority concerned for pursuing the PG Degree Programme in Jadavpur University, then in
case of him/her quitting the programme midway, without completing the degree or being
found ineligible to continue the programme before completion of the same, he/she will be
bound to return the full amount of fellowship drawn, till that point of time to the authority
concerned, as per rules and will be liable to refund the same, immediately on demand.
