Writing to Learn Strategy
Looking through the styles of writing in my content area, Chemistry, I noticed that the
overall similarity in many of the writings is their formatting. This being that the preferred format
for academics in the field is scientific reports. The content and strategies that are contained were
more varied than I had originally expected, also I was able to identify that APA is the preferred
essay format for scholars. The writing strategy that I identified as being the most beneficial to
students was the compare and contrast strategy. This is because in many articles the purpose of
the experiment was to determine the benefits of switching to a new technique or remain with the
same. The activity that I would do in a digital experience would be for the students to create a
venngage infographic. This infographic would have them find, or be provided, a text that
outlines two positions in regards to the environment. There will be a section of at least three
distinct areas that will be used to identify positions that are strictly to either of the sides and one
section that outlines similarities between the two. The overall purpose is for the students to be
able to identify and digest the information they are reading as well as present an argument for
how they are both using similar tactics, information, etc.
