My Thoughts:
The first thoughts I had while reading these articles were that of disconnect. Honestly, that was to be expected
because I have never really been exposed to people with disabilities or just of different cultural backgrounds
until college. Even in college most people that I was around were still of similar ideology as me. This
semester is really the first time I have been exposed to a classroom that is made up almost exclusively of
hispanic students. So far I don’t think this has created a lot of issues except for when I first showed up to the
class because a lot of the students were behind in the class and when I would help them with subjects I found
it necessary to use more visuals than that of previous internships. Overall, these articles reminded me of how
much more I have to go when it comes to interacting and supporting students to achieve literacy in science as
well as general literacy.
