This article was about a teacher's experience
teaching with diverse learners. He looks back at his
first couple years and how hard they were and how
he failed. He talks about his mistakes and how he
has learned to work with such students. He gives
research based strategy examples of how to better
teach diverse learners. They are as follows: Set high
expectations for your students,all students should be
challenged. Culturally relevant instruction, in order for
students to understand content, it should be relevant
to them(their culture, their values, their concerns.)
Caring relationships, when caring relationships are
formed there is mutual respect in the classroom.
Parent/community involvement, When parents are
involved in their students' education the students are
more likely to succeed.

learners.

This article highlights the problems in educating
diverse learners, such as social and political factors
that teachers overlook when teaching students and
the lack of cultural sensitivity in curriculum. The first
step to overcoming these problems was for teachers
to connect the content to the students' prior
knowledge (culture, experiences, language.) The
second step was to use multiple means of presenting
information so diverse students can understand it,
(visual, auditory, text, and physical aids, along with
content that relates to the students culture.)

Similarities

Both of these articles cover ways to help diverse students in your classroom. Both articles mentions using culturally
relevant instruction and getting to know and understand your students on a personal level

My Thoughts:
I think that both articles can be useful to me in my career as a teacher. Both of these articles complement one
another. I think that using the first articles 4 points of advice as a structure for my way of teaching and implementing
the second articles 2 steps can help me teach to my diverse learners and all of my students in general. I think these
ideas make learning more interesting. I think that these ideas also make for a fun class.
