1. A Chief medical technologist has been supervising a secondary , government owed laboratory
for five years. Upon his appointment, the first thing that he did is to make a SWOT analysis.
These are what he discovered.
a. The laboratory is not using an up to date instrumentation/technology.
b. There is a shortage of staff.
c. Turn about time is too long.
d. The management is ready to provide financial support.
e. The DOH has advised the hospital to open drug testing.
f. There are still laboratory procedures that a secondary laboratory can perform.
g. The schedule of staff duty is quite confusing.
h. The staff did not receive hazard pay.
i. There are potential ergonomic hazards in the laboratory.
j. The staff are all young, energetic and attend seminar and conference to upgrade
themselves.
The chief Med Tech, came up with a five year strategic plan. During the succeeding years
he took risk and work patiently to purchase an expensive analyzer that can be used for many
laboratory test. EQUAS shows that test result are accurate. There was an increase in the
number of staff sufficient to the number of test run each day. Hazard pay and clothing
allowance were also provided. Section head were appointed who directly report to him in
a monthly meeting. is now applying for a tertiary level category.

Answer the following base on the above situation.

2. A 50 yr old female patient went into the laboratory for the following test:

c. FBS and Cholesterol
d. Blood Culture
e. Repeat Urinalysis
Prior to blood collection, the patient fasted for 10 hours. She is often tired from work and
so she smoke to relieve stress. Her dinner is fatty meal with ice cream dessert. Before she
went to sleep she decided to have a 30 minute exercise.
During blood extraction, A recently registered Med. Tech. attended to her. The RMT was not
able to locate the vein right away and after 2 missed extraction, he thought of using
butterfly needle until finally settled on using ETS. A hemolyzed 5ml blood sample was
drawn from the patient.

Answer the following based on the above situation.

a. Identify the physiological factors in this situation . Can they possibly affect the result?
b. If you are the RMT staff assigned in the Blood Chemistry section. Will you accept the
blood sample? Justify your answer.
c. If you are the Med. Tech staff assigned in the Hematology section Will you accept the
