Nepal`s heritage has evolved over many

centuries. It is rich and unique.Nepal`s diversity
has been enriched by the presence and
contributions of many ethnic, tibal and social
groups from India, Mongolia and Tibet. This
brings to Nepal a rich culrure filled with
various festivals.
Let us read about a few important festivals of
Nepal.
· DASHAIN
One of the most important festivals of
Nepal is Dashain. It goes on for ffifteen days
and is considered the national festival of Nepal.
Dashain celebrates the victors of good over
evil. It falls in the month of September or
October during the lunar fortnight of the Nepali
calendar of Ashvin or Kartik ,endingin the full-
moon night or purnima. The country worships
Shakti or the power of the goddess and entire
Nepal virtually closes down for the festival
holidays. This is the longest and the most
auspicious festival that Nepal celebrates.
Goddess Parvati and her various manifestations
are worshipped during this time.

Lakhe dance: This dance takes place during important festivals in Nepal.

During Dashain, children fly kites while older

members of their family play cards. The cry of
'chang cheit ' fills the air, which signifies that
the string of the opponent's kite has been
successfully cut! Bamboo swings called `ping`
are constucted by local community members in
fields in traditional methods, new clothes, have
feasts at home and enjoy their holidays by
spending time together.
