STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

When the Christian faith was introduced by the CMS missionaries in Uganda in 1877, the new
converts looked up to Western theology for a concrete expression of the Christian faith. With
time, the enthusiasm started to wane due to the Christians' deep roots in the Kiga culture. The
1935 Convention in Kabale called the Anglican Christians in Uganda to turn from their un-
Christian ways and seek forgiveness. Today, the Church in Kigezi faces the problem of
addressing the realities of her Christians. Some Christians of Anglican faith in Kigezi region
profess to have been saved by Jesus Christ, yet they occasionally revert to traditional beliefs and
practices, especially during times of crises, why? Is the subjective theory of salvation that the
1935 Convention and the East African revival movement espouse relevant today?

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To contextualize the concept of salvation in Kigezi region.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
To do an analysis of contextualization.
To write the history of the East African Revival movement in kigezi diocese.
