2. Describe internal and external sources of information you would use to plan and
develop your sustainability policy.
When we want to determinate the external and internal sources of information about
a company we should use a swot analysis to ensure there are no performance gaps in
the workplace relations objectives. Then identify factors that are favourable and
unfavourable achieving the company`s objectives.
In our case we find
Strengths: build on
Weakness: overcome
Opportunities: exploit
Threats: minimise
Strengths Weakness
knowledge Management skill
resources Long term ROI
Incentive Budget
Social responsibility Unskilled staff
technology Lack of technology
staff
Skilled staff
Opportunities Threats
Industry development Lack resources
Marketing Competition
opportunities Government legislation
Government Lack technology
incentives
Assessment 2.
2. A.) How can continuous improvement be applied and implemented to sustainability
policy to help achieve sustainability objectives? Give two examples of the strategies
you could use to promote continuous improvement in resource efficiency
throughout the life cycle of your sustainability management.
The stages can be the next three and each of those have a requirements for continues
improvement
Data into knowledge: data access, readily available, assessment literacy, interpretive
knowledge and skill
Knowledge into action: context for knowledge building and knowledge sharing, clear
and coherent systems for action design
Action into improvement: clear and coherent systems for assessing both leading and
lagging performance measures.
A classic example of process streamlining can be found in the manufacturing industry and the
reduction of steps a worker must take to carry a widget from one location to another. Instead
of requiring the worker to move faster (which does little but impose ineffective process
management and lower the morale of the individual), the company moves the bin containing
the widgets closer to the drop-off location, saving the worker several steps and saving the
company seconds per work item completed, or seconds that get shaved off the total time it
takes to manufacture one widget. While the immediate impact of one or two seconds may not
seem to equate to very much money, it adds up over time.
Finally, the team decides on a new process. Once all opportunities have been identified, the
team works together to create a new process. The new process should be communicated to
everyone who is impacted, and action steps may be taken away by certain team members who
volunteer to help integrate the new process into the company. For example, if the new process
impacts another process, the takeaway would be to work with a spokesperson for the
impacted process to make the modifications that are necessary to accommodate the new
process.
2. B.) Explain how a recording system for tracking continuous improvement could be useful.
Why would it be important to assign responsibilities for the maintenance of this system?
The development and maintenance of records is an essential aspect of the monitoring and
review process for continues improvement. The records provide information on the
effectiveness of the policy, including:
Key activities
Agreed outcomes
Responsibilities
Timelines
Resources
Training
Reporting requirements
When someone take actions to limit the impact of the sharp increases in the cost of electricity
bills and reduce pressure on future prices include:
• Energy market reform to enable consumer participation and remove perverse incentives that
encourage investment that increases future prices
• Energy efficiency programs that assist households and businesses to save money on bills in
the short term and reduce pressure on future prices
• Energy rebates for low-income households to help reduce the immediate impact of price
rises.
There is a need to maximize access to programs that overcome barriers to energy efficiency
and
Save money on bills. This plan contains actions to investigate policy options
To provide with the structures, incentives, tools and skills it needs to mature.
Review the energy savings scheme, including
1. Unplug appliances that are not being used. Even though it is very small, the focus of stand
consumes energy.
2. Make sure that the electrical installations are in perfect condition,
3. On the day, keep curtains and blinds open.
4. Use light saving lamps.
5. Seize the body heat to raise the temperature of the establishment.
6. Take the alternative of using solar energy
7. Paint the walls and ceilings of your establishment with light and bright colours, making
reflect and distribute light better.
8. Avoid plugging multiple devices into a single contact. Otherwise it can generate short
circuits derived by overloads.
9. Use high-efficiency equipment or advanced technology.
10. Install movement sensitive lighting in non production area
11. Replace the existing light globes as required
For responsibilities is important to see that everyone in this case have the responsibilities to
save energy not just for keep the prices down, also by helping the environment.
It is clear that is necessary give some responsibilities to different persons , the manager of the
project so he is going to deal with issues and have to find methods of reporting to review every
time the process. It will help to achieve the initiative to reduce energy consumption and also
check the timeframes that it going to show a report monthly during the next 2 years to check if
the strategies and the implementation plan is working. It is important to give a good training to
everyone and the human resources have to carry out the training and it is going to take one
week to finish and then start working in generate more efficiently the reduction of energy and
the resources have to be acquired by sponsors but in a long term approximately one year this
resources have to decrease because when start saving energy it can save money so in the
future this resources should be implemented in new strategies or new technology to generate
more or different type or energy with low prices.
Stakeholders:
We can fine that the most important for the last steps is the communication that
it can use like include radio spots,
Newsletters, newspaper ads, direct mailing, websites, and community
involvement.
7. Write a summary document of your outcomes and how you will provide feedback to
key personnel and stakeholders affected by and involved in this project.
Senior manager and shareholders will receive regular formal reports, but other also
stakeholders need to know how the organization is progressing towards achieving its
environmental targets. Regular updates and successful achievement of targets can be used to
provide encouragement and support to maintain the momentum and commitment of all
involved. Feedback can also identify target that have not been met, areas of weakness and
risk, thus showing where improvements need to be made.
Newsletters
Memos, emails and letters
Website- intranet
Meetings
Presentations
Visual methods
8. Determine through investigation whether your policy is a success or not. If yes, why
do you think your policy is successful? If not, what can you improve?
With the right training and with the reports every month given feedback, help to approach it
and make sure always the project is improving the performance and progress.
All the documentation, observation and feedback all contribute to recognizing when have been
reached and it help to analyze the results of some adjust procedures.
